Maybe they don't promote the under card because they don't have to. how many PPV's did pac vs margarito get? how many fans did cowboys stadium hold last night? doesn't seem like they are hurting by not promoting the other fights that much. UFC could never sell out cowboys stadium the same way, and PPV's are heatlhy but not yet in the realm of boxing.

I really enjoy MMA. hell, I train in it. I agree with you that its fun to see these guys use such a large skill set, but it does turn them into a jack of all trades and a master of none really. MMA has it's issues. if I go to an MMA fight and a BJJ match shows up I get bored really quick, and I understand the nuances of that sport. on the other hand when i go to a grappling tournament thats what i came to see and I enjoy it.

the hand speed, and footwork of manny last night was a work of art. completely insane. just a freaking clinic. even the best MMA fights don't match up to what we saw manny do last night. One of the best MMA fights to watch and one that helped really blow up MMA to fans was Griffen vs. Bonner but that was two guys going out and beating the shit out of each other without any defense at all. Even the most infantile of fans can recognize that was some sloppy fighting. entertaining, but sloppy.

why try and take away from the skill of what these guys are doing? no matter the sport? boxing, muay thai, JJ, wrestling, or MMA? personally I find Muay thai events the most interesting, but I'm sure as shit not going to rag on any of the sports.

I understand if someone has a preference. I know I "get" boxing more than MMA. Love to watch all of it, though. Manny was poetry in motion, no doubt about that. The thing about boxing that I find so amazing is when a guy like Manny comes along and does things nobody else has ever done. Boxers just don't dominate guys who outweigh them by 20 pounds. His accomplishments as an athlete are truly legendary. I remember watching Ali as a kid, and Manny gives me the same feeling that you are watching history being made. Manny just brings it from the first bell to the last. There just aren't enough superlatives to describe this guy. Every fight is better than the last. I'll miss watching him when he finally retires. The man is a true champion.

Your choice on capitalizing distracts me.

In any case, the argument I brought up was that I believe that "MMA > Boxing" because despite all that footwork, he didnt KO him out. After 6 rounds of all that jazz, I get more of the same for another 6 rounds. To see the same shit over and over confuses me as to why it would deem more interesting than even a weak 122 fight card.

This is a sport that generally holds one skill set. I know footwork, speed, etc are all in boxing, but I am saying that when all those attributes that encompasses boxing are firing on all cylinders, I want to see results. Instead, I see a person hitting what might as well be a punching bag. I am supposed to be in awe because he didnt tire? He couldnt KO him or worse he couldnt TKO him! ( I usually dislike TKOs )

They dont have to market it cuz when you get the PPV you automatically get the other fights. I really hope youre not going to suggest the majority of people who order OR go to see the Pac fight also got it to see the other fights. Before MMA, I watched Boxing and I hardly cared about the fights leading up to the main event. I know I am not the anomaly. Best way to test this is to ask someone in person to say who else fought on that card and see what they come up with without looking up shit.

I dont want to bring up MMA's youth, but lets make it clear that its not as big as boxing as of yet, but its growth is astonishing. Their PPV sales get better every year, plus there are more of MMA events than boxing events in one year. That will also prove how marketing works for UFC. However, its still young. How do I know this? Cuz the random joe thinks its all about laying around, but guess what, he knows what UFC is. Couple years ago he may not have know shit or even called it a pitfighting show.

Why do you think its growing? Cuz Boxing is dying? Well..yeah. MMA is getting its name out (sadly, UFC is the name people know) and it involves a lot more than just one aspect. Dont forget, boxing is inside MMA. Tune in next weekend to see Boxing vs. Karate.

This argument might be pointless cuz its coming down to who likes what. But I think its a landslide, but I am biased. :kissu:

I am probably gonna have to step out of this thread. I feel disrespectful given your description of how much you like the sport. :sorry:

capitolizing MMA, UFC and PPV bothers you? LOL

you are right he didn't KO him. big deal. anyone who watched the fight or read a press release knows that in the 12th he chose not to KO him, or TKO him. and in the 11th he constantly looked at the ref asking "how much more punishment is this guy going to have to take before you call it?" the guy broke his orbital socket, so its not like there weren't "results" thats just comical to me to even think otherwise. he took the high road and didn't want to do permanent damage to him. i applaud the decision. I've already shown that 50% of UFC fights go to a decision so your argument there doesn't hold water at all.

yeah, boxing is inside MMA  even the best MMA boxers know not to step into a boxing ring. and toney had no business stepping into the octagon. I enjoy the technical aspects of each sport. it seems ridiculous to me that anyone would try to take away from the accomplishment of pacquiao or any other boxer by trying to highlight MMA.

No offense taken. Nothing wrong with having a preference. I admit I'm a pretty huge fan of the sport. Probably bordering on fanatical.

Ring girl wins for me.

I am not surprised. This fight should have been stopped.

Can't freaking wait for Pacquiao vs Mayweather - Please please happen!

"That was the kind of performance that could make Floyd want to go to jail." - Michael Buffer

Floyd is scared of Paqman

absolutely. he just beat the hell out of a guy 17lbs heavier than him. you don't do that in world championship boxing. its unheard of.

I'm not a huge boxing fan anymore as the sport has gone to the shitter in the past decade, but Manny's performance was masterful. He did get hit quite a lot by a boxer not known for his accuracy, but he couldn't exactly play it safe as he was at a size and reach disadvantage.

Margarito is also 4 inches taller and he's had 27 KO's so he really wasn't a slouch.

a hard hitter with 17lbs weight advantage hits manny a lot and manny takes every punch doesn't get close to getting in trouble and the other guy skips the post-fight interview and goes to the hospital? Floyd wouldn't beat manny. no way.

I hate Floyd "The Tranny" Mayweather, but I actually pick him over Manny if they fought. Not because I'd want that outcome by anymeans, I'd be rooting for Pacman 200%, but I thinkn Floyd's counter game, speed and accuracy would take the fight to a decision win.

War BJ penn for UFC 122, but there are better fights brewing with the merger of the WEC. Jose Aldo will reck shop when he meets either Edgar or Maynard.

No doubt that Floyd is a superior defensive fighter with excellent counter punching skills. He is also very fast. I do think Pac-man would win, but the fight would be fantastic to watch. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen.

Nothing would make my day like watching Mayweather take a beating and from Manny of all people (I damn near shet my pants when Sugar Shane rocked Mayweather, but that was a short lived moral victory).

I'm doubtful the fight will happen as well, but man, the numbers on that fight would be outrageous.

this right here. Floyd doesn't hit hard enough to hurt manny in my opinion. he took some crazy punches from margarito (who is much bigger than manny or Floyd) floyd is good at countering, maybe the best, but many put on a clinic of footwork and handspeed. manny would overwhelm him in my mind

I'm not sure Floyd could hurt Manny even if he loaded his gloves with plaster casting like Margarito did when he got suspended. People think Floyd is fast, and he is. But not compared to Manny. Plus Manny has great power in BOTH hands, and from all angles. I don't think Floyd will fight him 'cause he knows that Manny is better.

the crazy shit about manny is he puches from every single angle. That fight will never happen, money is scared to loose that "0"

Floyd has also never faced a southy with the kind of footwork and ability to use BOTH hands for offense. Manny's right hook is beautiful as is his lead uppercut. The foot speed wouldn't favor either fighter, but I'd say Manny has the better hand speed.
