Friday I'm going for my max bench. When I started this journey 4 months ago I was pressing a grand total of 160lbs. I'll be putting up 200+ if all goes well tomorrow. This is very important to me as I set this goal 4 months ago.

What intervals should I start at? eg. How much weight, how many reps before going for the max?

Good luck with your max!

I went for 300 Monday and I did somehting like this.

2x 10 bar
2x 10 135
1x 5 185
1x 3 225
1x 1 275
1x 1 300
1x 1 315<miss>
1x 11 225 burn out

I'm not sure how it would break down for you, but it worked for me.

I am trying to break 315 in the bench press. I have been stuck.
I am trying hard work paitence and not being to wrapped up about it. Really...what does it matter?
Enjoy, Live and love large and if you can...bench big!

I wanna get back up to the 250 i did a couple years ago, bench press has never really been on of my stronger points, although i'm really not that strong in general, oh well

I'd warm up with the bar first. Then go to about 60% of your projected max and do 5 reps. Then load 75% of your projected max and do 3 reps. Now go to a weight you KNOW you can do a triple (roughly 90% of 1 rep max), and do a single rep. After that, GO FOR IT!

Let's say your projected max is 205 (here is a good calculator - http://www.strengthdisk.com/OneRMCalc.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=105&KEY=&ATCLID=).

bar x 10
125 x 5
155 x 3
185 x 1
Try 205

Thanks for your support guys.

Today I got up 215 lbs. I damn near shit myself. I know this isn't much weight for a lot you but my previous max was 185 lbs 3 weeks ago. Jersey I did almost as you said (not seeing your post).

15 x bar
10 x 115
6 x 155
3 x 185
1 x 205
1 x 215
1x 225 (just missed it)

I think I could get 225 up next time I was just a bit worn out. Also I only rested 1 minute between 215 and 225 because I felt so good putting up 215.
That I'm sure was a mistake, but hey we live and learn. 225 will go up by the end of the month then I will set a new goal.

Again thanks for everything! Without this board I would not have the motivation to do this on my own.

Congratulations on 215! It sounds like if you had omitted the 215 set, you would of had 225 no problem. Next time I would go a bit lighter on your warm up sets. Something like:

bar x 10
135 x 5
170 x 3
205 x 1
new max at 225 :thumb:
