I think the biggest problem with bodypart splits is fitting everything in. The way theyre set up, you usually do about 2 bodyparts per session, and there are 7 muscle groups that are generally used - plus extras:
Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders, Back, Chest, Quads, Hams, Calves, Forearms.
Thats a lot of stuff for a 7 day week, thats four or five days in one "weekly" cycle.
Then you've got balance and periodization to worry about aswell.
I think if you dont know what you're doing (like most trainees) they will totally fuck up a bodypart split, i mean come on - most of the programs you see from beginners are absolutely terrible bodypart splits - but like Akira said, i think they can work.
Personally id rather an Upper/Lower or something. Its simpler to get everything balanced and i just think they work better *shrugs*.
I think more people should try and come up with good bodypart splits though, just to see if the perfect bodypart program can be created
