Can someone explain to me the process and the reason for this?

Process: Get fat or quit restricting calories.

Reason: to prevent your metabolism from fucking you over.

The reason for resetting your metabolism is because it gets too use to dieting and it makes it harder to lose fat. While dieting you cut calories back when fat loss slows down you tweak and most of the time you cut calories back again. Before you know it your not eating enough calories and your not losing fat. Your basically stuck.

To get yourself out of this starvation mode you start by bringing up your calories slowly. Usually starting at about 200 calories a week and then a week later you increase more and so on and so forth. Yes you do put on a little weight but done correctly and the fat gain is minimal. Once your caloric intake is at a high maintenance level you can either start cutting again or bulk if you choose to.

This is the same reason we tell newbies that are cutting to start new meal plans out slowly because if they go for it too fast they will gain weight fast and quit.

I hope that explains it good enough. :)

Great, thanx Jodi ! I really appreciate your taking the time to explain to me.

I am still a newbie, cuz I have no clue! :)

No problem, I hope I answered your question. :D

OK, let me throw a wrench into this whole thing:

I'm trying to figure out how to best lose fat weight. I'm 35 yo (male) 5'10 and about 250#. To look at me at the gym, you'd think I was a powerlifter. To look at me on the street, you'd think I was a fat man--because I have a big gut that won't go away (but you can hide under a t shirt in the gym).

I have a very thick back and chest, great v-taper, very large thighs and legs--and also a big flabby gut (was 47" at 270#).

Now the history: I was a fat kid and a fat adult (weighed over 350 when was in my early 20's) and got down to about 190 when I first fell in love with exercise. In my late 20's I began weightlifting and contemplated bodybuilding but I could never get my dbodyfat low enought to get rid of the 'smooth' offseason look. My best attempt at fat loss was 7% bodyfat.

Anyhow, ever since then, I find it very easy to put on lean muscle and increase overll strength. But I find it increasingly difficult to control my gut! Imagine Arnold with a sack of jello around his midesction and that's me.

Right now I'm having moderate success (lost 20#) doing slimfast plan, with Stacker2. Long term, I'm worried that I'll have to eat like this permanently to keep the fat off. I noticed that the drop from 265 to 250 went very fast but now its slowed already.

I would just like to know what the best way to do this is.

Thanks!

OMG Get away from the SlimFast. It is nothing but pure crap!!!!

You sound like you could get your diet in order and bet you would trim down with proper nutrition.

I would start by reading THESE. They will help you learn what proper nutrition is. Read as much as you can. There is a ton of good info.

In the meantime, I would highly suggest getting off the slimfast and get some good quality food into you. Your body is probably hurting for it right now. Seriously, throw the CrapFast away and get some good healthy proteins and veggies into your system.

Hahaha crapfast? Heh what is there a new laxative flavor out now?

When is the "reset" over with and tweaking begins?

I am at 135 and have been for two weeks now doing the DP/W8 cutting guidelines.

I wonder if its time to cut back on cals now and maybe I can lose ten more pounds that way.

Sorry if this is a stu[id question, Im a newbie, learning from yall.
Thx,
V

Best advice.................quit looking at the numbers on the scales!!!!!!!!!!! Throw the scales away!! Look in the mirror! If you are lifting, you will probably gain weight, but will loose bodyfat!!

I'm not familiar with your background. I would have to look at your journal and see your diet and/or lifting program.

Ok, I guess that was a general question. I was just wondering if you tweak when you hit a "plateau" of some sort.. ?

LMAO!!! Diet?? What is that?? I'm too busy taking PH's and trying to build muscle. If I ever get huge, then I'll diet to show my muscles!!

I do watch what I eat pretty much(eating clean like chicken, tuna, brown rice and sweet potatoes). But when I get the urge for a cookie or some Ice cream, no stopping me!

Victoria,
We do not know your background, what you've done, what youve tried, where you are at right now. Its not an easy question to answer without this knowledge.

I would highly suggest starting a journal and providing as much information about your dieting and lifting history as well as current meal plan and current stats. From there we can make better suggestions and assist you along the way. :D

Sorry I thought she already had one! Yep you need to start one!

bignova

if you want quality muscle with low body fat put quality supplements into yr quality diet !!!! also monitor your fats and fluids these two f's are usually the key to great results , cut the crap fats and increase the h2o you'll be a "supernova" !!!!
