If you must eat something in the middle of the night, becuase you can't get back to sleep, cuz your tummy keeps growling, what is the best thing to eat?

Have a bedtime shake with only protein and fat (flax or cream), no carbs, as carbs at bedtime (unless a planned carb-up to replace glycogen) interfere with HGH production. Make about 50% more than you need for BW (body Weight (suggests you have a meal plan))

Use a shaker cup, and lots of ice, big cubes, not blended. Then at 1 or 2 or 3 AM, rather than run to the frig, finish the shake!

i agree with a protien drink also,if really trying to lose weight. But if your bulking maybe a protien drink and then have a bowl of high grain cereral or a protien bar..

Wouldn't matter, fat can be an efficient fuel in the absence of carbs, the crime would be not eating!

You can blend, add ice after, it's protein and you do not want it at room temperature for 4 or 5 hours!

If you like , you could have a plain chicken breast w/ a little salsa;roasted turkey slices;extra lean ground beef patty;low fat cottage cheese 1/2 cup(no fruit).
Protien shakes are still the best way to go 'cuz you can pre-mix & leave it in the fridge 'til ya get ready.

Sorry Chalcedony, forgot about the vegetarian status.Have you tried tofu? That could be an option,I 've never tried it myself, but they sure sell alot of it.
The supplement co.'s have come up w/ lots of new hi protien snack stuff , maybe you could find something to your liking in that area.A shake w/out carbs seems to your best bet though.:shake:

actually tofu is extremely disgusting... normally i eat soy based fake meat... but i think i'll go for the shake because I normally have one before bedtime, so i'll just make more and put it in the fridge incase... thanks for the replys!

Nothing is best, but it's best to have something in mind if you can't help yourself.

Popcorn, no salt?

Popcorn would be one of the worst things to have! High glycemic, low quality carb.

If you're talking whey then i think a protein shake alone is a crappy idea. Without carbs or fat with it, the body will oxidise the majority of it. If we're talking a casein, albumen, whey kinda blend then tits.

I suggest never eating protein on its own - always try and have protein and carbs or protein and fat.

If you wanna eat carbs in the middle of the night then fine. Fruit may be a good idea here since it doesn;t illicit an insulin response. Not bananas, strawberries or grapes tho. Well, bananas are prolly ok i suppose...

Besides the fat burning properties, hGH does very little in the body in the amount that are pulsated out so don;t worry so much about that aspect. If you're eating more cals than you're burning off then you're gonna add fat no matter what. And unless you're hitting carbs hard in almost every meal don;t worry about not burning off carbs or they'll turn to fat and all that wank. Protein has the same potential in this reguard - especially if you're talking in more than you need.

All i'd be concerned with is trouble getting back to sleep if insulin is provoked. I seem to find it hard. May just be one of my groovy unique qualities tho...

If you're a veggie then why not grab a handful of nuts and some cottage cheese? They're both relatively complex forms of food and will digest slowly in your stomach. Quite tits.

How is a banana good? It's pretty high glycemic. Strawberries on the other hand are much lower.

Bananas are only that high on the GI scale if you have 50g of carbohydrates worth - that's a big frickin' banana! Besides, strawberries and grapes have a higher water content. In comparison, a banana would digest more slowly because it is slightly more complex and would provide a little more sutainance.

If you're bulking tho you can eat what you want haha

Oh and by the way, something i forgot to add last night:

"I suggest never eating protein on its own - always try and have protein and carbs or protein and fat. "

Fibre is a good idea with either meals.

I still think a banana wouldn't be good...it's realtively high in sugar compared to strawberries....and in fact, I wouldn't necessarily think I'd have strawberries either....protein & fat is what I'd have.

Please explain the protein&fat or protein&carb...I already know, but for the benefit of others...and I feel like arguing :D

BTW...WTF is w/ the sig, lol...I can't help but think it's in reference to a recent conversation?!

try an advant edge carb control drink. it only has 120 calories that include 2 carbs. it is light, only about 6-8 oz.

W8, chances are that your glycogen stores won;t be full so unless you're taking in a ridiculous amount of carbs you won;t store it as fat. Like i say, only problem you may derrive from it is an insulin response stopping any hGH but bah!

Oh and the pro/carbs fat/carbs...I can;t be arsed to type. Too drunk.

I hate late night cravings I always wake up hungry even though I eat before I go to sleep.
