Evening all,

Just wanted to start off by asking what you all think is the best way of losing about 10kg of fat. Now i know everyone is gonna say a combination of a good diet and cardio, but what exactly?
Does anyone have any links to great fat losing programs which include both diets and exercises?

Thanx very much :thumb:

Perfecto, the most effective method for one person doesn't mean it's the most effective for another.

Two generalisations you can make, however, is that the most effective diets for losing fat are ones that you can stick to and ones with lower calories.

Welcome to IM! :D

We're glad you're interested in 'Fat Loss" as as opposed to "Weight loss"....you'll find that major calorie restriction is NOT necessary to achieve this, nor is cardio! :D

Basic starting rules:

1-weight training...3-4 x per week
2-cardio...3-4 x per week, preferably on empty stomach, 20-30 minutes per session.
3-nutrition...

*5-6 meals per day about 2-3 hours apart
*alot of water...a gallon or more per day
*cut out all junk foods
*protein...1.5 grams per lb of bodyweight each day
carbs...1 gram per lb of bodyweight on training days, .5 grams
on off days
fats...about .25 grams per lb of bodyweight each day, preferably
from low fat meats and EFA's

4-supplements...thermogenic is optional

This is a good starting point, but adjustments will be necessary along the way.

I'd like to take this opportunity to announce the opening of my new internet service on drinking and how to do it the right way.

It's called R.A.T.T.E.D.

aka:

Rob And The Trials of Ethanol Drunkeness.

It's a step by step tuition of how to make the most of your nights out and how to get stinkin', blind drunk and lose a good portion of your life via anti-rememberance concoctions and the hangover of a lifetime that will rid you of a good portion of the day after.

Costs are still to be finalised, but watch this space!

Are these numbered in order?

While fundamentally, you're correct, adding cardio to "a" diet may still result in fat loss, a better idea may be to go about organising the initial diet first before adding the cardio, or even saving the cardio for several weeks and using it as a 'wild card' when fat loss slows and you don't particularly want to lower calories via food any further.

I realise you already know this, but someone who doesn't should realise that cardio is necessary, and can be put off for several weeks while diet does the job alone.

That is all.

Damn, I hope not! :D

I agree with you TCD, but unfortunately most people DO NOT stick to any part of a fat burning plan all that well, especially the diet. That is why I recommend at least a minimal amount of cardio to start off with, to offset any "mistakes" made in other areas. Starting with 3-4 20 minutes sessions per week works well, and that number can always be adjusted up comfortably as the weeks go on and the metbolism stalls.

my 2 cents worth.........i agree too.:p

Thanx guys.

The problem is whether i should just cardio/diet train to get back in shape because ive been slacking off smoking/drinking/sleeping/eating junksh1t all year or whether i shud jump strait into a cardio/diet/weights program?

Since your a 'newbie' you can clean up your diet, start lifting and you will most likely lose fat and gain muscle.

*hopes TCD doesn't see this post*:D

I've already told you that new lifters and really fat people are void from what i said.

what did you say?

I would probably guess that liposuction is effective. Maybe not natural or safe, but effective. :D

costly too..

I see no reason why you can't get on a good diet, a good training program, and a solid cardio routine all at once. It can be as simple as eating clean and training with weights on monday, wednesday and friday, and doing cardio on opposite days. The entire program doesn't need to be long or elaborate, just effective.

thanx gopro and btw i recon your quote is mad!!

Thanks my man. I'm glad you understood what I was getting at with that quote. It is actually very similar to something that the great Bruce Lee said in an interview many years ago when describing HIS approach to martial arts. I believe that it applies to many many things in life!

Yes. The style of no style! Adapt to what is around you. Do not expect pre-rehearsed movements to work in a non rehearsed world!
