I have recently read that more tissue tearing occurs during negatives. A muscle tears more while being lengthened under tension than when being contracted under tension.

I read that years ago probably in a Weider mag, that the negative was the most important part of the rep, who knows.

I dont think anyone should feel obligated to stick to one routine, if you want to mix it up go for it, it provides a mental break if nothing more.

Yup, what he said. Variety is the key. You're forcing your muscles to adapt to stress they aren't used to. If they DO get used to it, you need change something. The example CowPimp used was rythm. One week you go four seconds down and two seconds up. Another week it's three up and three down. Then it's two up and four down. Finally, it's back to the beginning but, hopefully, with more weight. Whatever it takes to add variety to your routine. :thumb:

Well if you want to get technical, what builds muscle is a tailored diet and sufficient rest/sleep.
