I love working out, I SWEAR, but sometimes, like on afriday evening when I want to go out but I need to do my legs but I want to get ready to go out, its tough!!
I usually find that about every 8 weeks, this is the pattern I've seen in myself, I get a little bored. I mean, I've been working out for 10 months now, any routine is bound to get stale.
Does everyone get like this? I set goals for myself and this helps but I want some opinions on what you guys do to get yourself to the gym on the days you REALLY don't want to go. Mantra? Pics you look at?

Thats why I cant do legs the last day of the week. If I did I know I would skip them sometimes!

I agree with Mule. if its possible to know what bodypart might be the hardest to motivate yourself for on a certain day, try to put it on a day when you will be more likely to nail it.
for me my motivation comes from the mirror. I am a big believer in my mirror, it doesn't lie. I look at it and see all the progress I have made and realise that without hard training I would not have made it. it also tells me where I am lacking so I can work to improve those areas. it really does help me get my ass in the gym when I am feeling lazy.

I browse through my flex magazines and look at some of the pro's. It makes me realise how small I actually am and motivates me to train hard.

I agree with Seyone's mirror theory. Other than that, I don't know where my motivation comes from. But I keep going to the gym five times a week, so it must be coming from somewhere.

I know what I want to look like and I know the only way to get there is to go to the gym and workout. If you skip workouts you will never achieve your goal. So when it is leg day, I am glad because I can take one more step to getting to where I want to be. I can't wait to do the next workout to get closer to the goal.

That is how I think about it. :)

The thing that motivates me is... I worked very hard to lose over 50 lbs. and when I look back, why would I want to be like that again, plus I've worked so hard to get where I am , and if I can accomplish that, then lets see how much more I can improve myself ;)

Working out when you'd rather be off goofin' w/ the gang is all about will power. You just have to figure out what will give you the results you're after.Personally I find stress relief in the gym since I work so closely w/ the public. You can't always tell people what you think, but you can bang da plates & feel better about it.
In the end though...IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR GOALS AND WHAT WILL YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.
When you miss a workout you can't "make it up later".

This is a quote from a motivational spkr I just met with:
" YOU CAN SPEND YOUR DAY ANY WAY YOU WANT,BUT YOU WILL ONLY SPEND IT ONCE."

Forgot to post my motivation=I've been a hairstylist for about 9 yrs now. Most of the people in my profession where I live have what I call "stylist ass".This comes just sitting & eating when you're not w/ customers. It's so hard to eat right when all that's around you is cookies, donuts, fast food, etc.
My motivation is not to look like all the others. This makes my job easier because I don't have all the aches & pains as the rest of them.Besides that, who do you want to take advice from?--Someone that looks the part or someone that can't/won't even control what they look like

HAHAHAHAHAHAH
stylist ASS. In nursing school, my friends and I called it the "nursing spread". And let me tell you, you would think that nurses, the epitome of health, would have nice bodies and take care of themselves but no!!. Esp. in Buffalo, obesity is rampant.
I use that gimmick once in a while and it does scare the heck out of me. Literally haveing to sit down all the time b/c they can't do their work standing up. It's a pity.
Thanks for all the replies.

Well, if that's the case then I would say take a 5-7 day break from the gym every 8 or 10 weeks.

Also, do legs Saturday morning if you can, rather than Friday night.

I like to catch a few local bodybuilding shows per year, that pumps me for a couple of months.

You want motivation......just look around! Everytime I feel like I don't want to workout I just look around, fat asses everywhere!! I am not going to be a fat lazy ass, no way!

I love my body and I won't let it down by dropping my workouts. I like sticking out in a crowd. :thumb:

i listen Iron Maiden and watch body building movies for an hour before i go to the gym it really gets you pumped up i feel like a wild beast when i enter the gym

I wish I had the time to do that before every work-out! :)

I'd honestly have to say my two biggest motivations would be God and my wife. Having said that, if I have a really F'upped day at work, that will get me going.

Course, seeing all these fatasses running around helps too! :D

My line of work has a lot of em running around - they smoke, drink like a fish off duty, eat a "lunch" (Snikers, Coke, Chips), and sit there watching the screens and answering radios.

I've been there, don't want to go back to that unhealthly state. (That might be my biggest motivation).

Whatever works for ya, right? :)

Edited: I'm grammatically challenged :nut:

i like the body building show idea, of going to see one. i might try that the next time they have one in toronto.

As a relatively newcomer I can still remember my stomach increasing 4 inches before I became serious.
As for motivation in general p'haps set yourself time and size measured short term goals, find yourself a gym buddy to see you get to gym and you could always think of it as an investment in a healthy life in years down the track

I train only one body part per day per week. So if I get in a situation where I don't want to lift, I ask myself one question: "what happends if i don't lift today." The answer is that there is a body part that will not have individual attention for two weeks. That is not exceptable to me, so I end up lifting.

my motivation comes from home. I only get to go home about once a month because of school and it never fails that a few people comment on how much size i've put on. I just cant wait til summer when i get to take the shirt off:D

mine is visualising the muscle im working out. Visualise it in my brain, thinking how it will be if i work them out, how they will grow until.
