I bought one last night mostly for basketball when I play. I've heard on baterial infections being caused by mouthpieces and I wanted to the proper steps taken so this doesn't happen or isn't the case with me.
My son wears them for football, he usually has four or five mouth pieces ready for the season. After a game he'll wash the mouth piece and put it in a ziplock, then before the game he'll wash it again. I've never heard of anyone getting a bacterial infection, but I could see how you could if they aren't properly taken cared for.
I never had problems back when I played football in high school. I had all kinds of shit get in it...dirt, grass, mud, etc...juts hosed it off during water breaks and went back out there!

I definitely would condone muff diving!
i would have to agree with both these statements. ive had mud and dirt and grass and shit in them and left them in a damp football locker room over night. in 3 years of football ive never actually washed a mouthgard, maybe rinsed off like what freeman said with a hose at breaks but thats it. and i would also condone muff diving!
