Cols,OH. It sucks.
In this thread it says a degree is required for NASM certification, but I can't find any such statement on the NASM Requirements webpage

Is a degree really required?

Does it have to be related?
I have a degree, but it's in Business & Finance.

I'd like a PT qualification of some sort. I spend megabucks on training & nutrition related books anyway. I may as well invest in some that would result in a qualification.

Any recommendations?

I've heard of
ISSA, NSCA, NASM and ACSM but I'm not sure what would be most beneficial. I don't want to be a full-time trainer, but a few healthy clients would be kinda cool. I've learned so much already. It would be nice to give back / help others.

'a few healthy clients' is not really something you can determine, depending on where you plan on working. The point of most clients getting a PT is that they're not healthy.

AFAIK a degree is required for NASM. I'm going for the ISSA.

Thanks, Witch!

Like you said, I'm not intending to become a real, high quality PT like P-funk or Cowpimp, rather be a valuable resource to friends, co-workers and fellow gym rats. The walking wounded would probably be better off seeking a full-time/pro trainer.

The qualification would be mostly just for me, but if I'm able to earn a buck or two along the way because of it, then that'd be fine with me. Mostly though, I'd just like to learn more and be more confident that I'm offering others good advice.

I have a call into NASM because I've been all over their website now and have found no mention of a degree being required, let alone whether it needs to be a related degree. If I hear anything contrary to what you already know I'll let you know.

Thanks again.

G.

Unless they have changed something, you don't need to have a degree to get the NASM cert.

When I got mine back in the day, Yanick and studied for the exam together and he was only in high school at the time that he took it. The only rule is that you must be over 18.
