Ive never EVER done dead lifts before...dont ask me why, cause I dont know either. I attempted to do them today, but, as anyone on this board who has been in the Navy will know, its impossible to do them on a rocking ship! Is there an alternative that I can do on a rack that does what deads can do? Thanks guys!

Think rack pulls would be the solution there. I like mine set a bit lower then in the video, but im not lifting anywhere near as much as this guy!

That sucks man. But the bonus is, you wont be on a boat forever. .

Guess i should have been a little more specific...what can I do with a Smith Machine that would have the same benefit? Pretty much the only thing we have that is stationary. Cant wait to get back to terra firma and get those deads into my routine!

You could do a Romanian Deadlift on a smith machine.

This and pullthroughs to work hips/power more. Add in bent over rows with the smith and you might be somewhere close to what a deadlift would do.

Bent over rows overhand will improve back thickness and works more of the core.

Underhand grip works back width or lats.

You can actually hold the barbell in the top position to feel it for yourself. ENJOY !

Nothing with a Smith machine is going to equal Deadlifts. That being said, many of the suggestions are going to be beneficial while you are on ship.
