Some of the low carb food say they have so many net effective carbs. The carbs from the ingredient Maltitol are not counted because it doesn't effect your blood sugar levels and the carbs don't absorb like normal carbs.I can see how this is really good for diabetics but my question if your counting carbs would you still count all the carbs or take their word for it and just count the net effective carbs?

Yeah i was thinking the same thing since when you add up the total calories the non effective carbs still count as 4 calories per gram.I heard when you eat sugar it floods your body with carbs so your body won't burn any fat for a little while. So maybe there is something to Maltitol like it acts more like a complex carb but complex carbs count to. :D

OK...here is the truth! :D

First, yes, count the carbs, count the calories....and so forth. KNOW that many labels are still not complying with the new lableling mandate..so always add up the marcos and compare them to the total calories on the label! :D

Next...know that glycerol and glycerine are interchangable words and is 4.3 calories per gram. It's been the contention for many years that glycerine and other sugar alcohols do not affect serum glucose.

One possible explanation for this..and I was offered publication if I can prove it...is that when you store fat....triglycerides convert to glycerol and then fat. So you are actually giving your body something that is one metaboite away from fat/adipose.......and thereby not affecting glucose levels.

Now the empirical evidence (and I lost an $85 bar sale yesterday explaining all this honestly). Those that are carboholics. very overweight....etc .... get some results with these foods at first. It's more w8 loss than fat loss...simply because they are substituting a bar or a small portion of L/C chocolate (can't eat much of matitol w/o living on the toilet...and some of my customers buy this stuff for the laxative effect...lol). So at first it's calorie reduction.

But we have seen time after time, those that avoid these foods get much better and more rapid result. Especially BB's. Those with screaming metabolisms get away with bars and some of the "sweetened stuff".....most do not! :D
