is that one rep max an ego thing? i have never attempted a one rep max. i lift to get stronger and if i am pushing more weight than i did a month ago then i know i am getting stronger. use one of the one rep max calc. if u need a number to tell your friends
If you're lifting to get stronger, then you should be lifting maximally as well. The heavier you lift the more motor units you recruit, and subsequently the greater the improvement in intramuscular and intermuscular coordination.
