I had my bf taken at the gym a couple of weeks ago and it was 21%. I was taken with a device that look like a wand. The lady put on my arm and a computer calculated my bf%. I do not know if anyone else has had it done this way of not, but I can not beleive this is accurate. So I bought a set of digital calipers and did a three site test. One at the chest, one at lower stomach, and one on my thigh. The digital come out to be 16%. Are anyone of these test very accurate?

Calipers are more accurate than those electronic thingys. But netiher are very accurate.

that is so untrue. calipers are very accurate. it all depends on what calipers, and who uses them. when my bodyfat was measured at the university of nebraska at omaha, the lady used steel calipers that clamped on their own, very nice ones. and then the hydrostatic testing after that.

wow they were so innacurate that the hydro got me at 5% and the calipers at 6.5%.. they are very accurate and simple to get a reading. just make sure to get it at the same person if your looking to monitor it

I didnt say they wernt. They are the best/cheapest option and more accurate than impedence scales, but they are not the most accurate. I got a bf check done in a hospital using an x-ray machine. Now thats accurate.

It was part of a medical test. I had to wear one of those hospital gown and lie down. The x-ray machine went over me a couple of times. Then she pulled out stats of dimenstions and bf for each limb, torso and head (which had the highest % of fat understandably) along with total bf%. I dont think this option is freely available to anyone and everyone. :)

It is just my new calipers put me at 15% bf. I have a had time believing I am 15% bf.

thought x-rays were for bones?

DEXA scans (a type of x-ray) can also be used for fat:lean tissue. They are usually only used for this on special occasions (eg: science studies, special health checks etc) but sometimes some hospitals will do them for you for your own interest (it just usually costs a bunch).
