Hey...

Just posting to introduce myself - I'm 17 & from Ohio, and plan to finally start working out instead of making excuses as I did before. I decided to join after reading Built's 'Homework #1', it was far more informative then some other junk I've read trying to sell me stuff I probably don't even need. The only problem I have is with the diet - I have little to no control over whats being bought in my house, so I'm going to have to figure out a way to get balanced meals on my own.

Aaand that's it. Hope I'll be able to help out some people in the future here just as much as this forum has motivated me in the short time I've been here.

welcome to IM. i'm fairly new as well. i've been working out for a few months now and seeing definite results. this forum has a lot great information!

Thanks for the welcome!

Right now, I'm trying to decide whether or not to shell out $50(plus somewhere around a $75 joining fee) a month to join the local gym, or to just buy my own equipment and work out at home.

Welcome, CKP-
You are still in high school? Can't you use the school gym?

I'm still in high school, but using the school gym isn't exactly an option - I just transferred to a online school for more work flexibility so the old gym is now sorta out of the question.

Hey, just getting caught up here. Welcome.

Now, the eats. What are your current parameters - are you looking to gain muscle, drop weight... ?

We can start there. You can build your diet out of what's available at home - you might want to ask for some cottage cheese or cans of tuna, but I can't imagine you'd need anything your parents would freak about.

Now, the gym thing. Is there a community centre nearby? That's all I use. Just a basic neighbourhood community centre gym.

Right now, I'm about 140 pounds, and I was looking to drop 15-25 pounds to get rid of the extra fat, but also was looking forward to building some muscles.

I'll ask about the tuna, the only problem I have with the diet is that my mother typical buys the same things every two weeks- 1. White Bread 2. Cereal 3. Milk 4. Microwave Pizzas. After looking around the forum some more, I'm going to see if I can convince & go with her to buy things better suited to what I need.

As for a community gym, I'm not positive but I'll search around for one - the only two I know of are Curves & the YMCA, and they both have ridiculous membership requirements. (I.E. overpriced monthly/joiner fees)

I believe YMCA offers financial aid for students. Ask about it, costs can drop by as much as 80%.

I would KILL to be able to go back in time and know what I know now, at seventeen.

Bygones.

At least I get to live vicariously through others... <laughs maniacally>

How tall are you, hon? I'm pretty lean at 140, but I'm 5'7".

xD

Sadly I happen to be very short, I'm only around 5'1-5'3, so 140 is a bit for me. I'm not really big, it's just most of my weight is on my stomach and thighs.

Got it. You're not quite "fat" but you're too juicy for summer. No biggie, that's easy to fix.

Have you done the fitday thing yet? Got some numbers for me?

Not yet, but I just signed up and will begin tracking what I eat. I'll send you a message once I got three days worth of info.

Sounds perfect. Meanwhile, let me know when you have access to a gym, k?

welcome
