I've never taken any supplements but would like to start in order to increase my strength gains and burn more fat. What would you folks recommend? Thanks.

BCAAS? is that like a pill or liquid ?

The basics:

Whey protein (post workout and through the day)
Casien Protein (before bed)
Fish Oil
Multi

Fat burners (basics):

Ephedrine
Caffiene
Yohimbine
7-keto

Dont put too much faith in fat burners, I see them more as energy assistants if anything. There is no magic pill IMO, not over the counter anyway.

While there is no magic pill, there are effective ones.

Any particular brand of Fish Oil?

The higher ratio of O3 to O6 the better. Generally, though you should find one that doesn't give you the burps.

I use BJ's brand.

hmmm...surprised that you do not see creatine as one of the "basics".

Prince, I am a non-responder, and for me, it does nothing. I recognize that many others do, and that is fine. So basically, I'd consider it a second tier supplement, and not a basic supplement.

I do object to paying for overly priced fancy "delivery systems" that do nothing more that what you can achieve with dextrose.

I used to get them bad. Some brands are worse than others. I now take 20+ caps a day, always right BEFORE a meal, and never get them.

I'm thinking of getting the capsule form of CLA for accelerating fat-loss. Do you guys recommend this? Are there any side-effects of CLA supplementation?

Not for accelerating fat loss, no.

Basic:
1-multivitamin
2-vit C
3-whey isolate or hydrolysate (post workout)
4-micellar casein based protein powder or MRP
5-creatine or creatine transport product
6-glutamine, preferably peptide bonded
7-EFA supplement

Specialty:
-prohormones
-thermogenics
-anticatabolics
-BCAAs
-test boosters
-anti-Es
-etc

I agree with this but I think I would move EFA's up a little. I also think Vit E is also important. It acts as an anti-oxidant, as does C! It also helps protect the heart!

Dg...I wasn't listing them in order of importance, just making a general list. And yes, vit E is another good one!

okay, completely understandable, however, given that creatine has more scientific testing/proof/evidence, etc. than any other supplement, even though you do not respond isn't it still an important supplement for the majority of people that will respond to it and deserving of being listed as a "basic" supplement?

I know enough non-responders on the net and in the real world to keep it out of the basics.

I'd consider it the first choice though, when going beyond the basics. For example, I'd not recommend it to someone who is starting lifting for the first time.

Lastly, I do think that (assuming you have been lifting for a few months) you should probably take it, for the sole reason that it is so damn cheap. This probably sounds contradictory, but my point is it really shouldn't be included, IMO, with the rest of the things up there.
