--===NeWs on ProteiN===--

I think there is truth in that.

I mean, look at Bruce Lee....

only ignorant people would say he's "small"

He had muscles on top of muscles

I say he's small...I dont think I'm ignorant. Being shredded and being "big" are totally different things...

Vital Statistics
Bruce Lee:
Height: 5' 7½" (1.71m)
Weight: 135lbs (62kg)
Lowest Weight: 125lbs (57kg) (in 1973)
Waist size: high 30" (76cm); low 26" (66cm)

read this and tell me what you all think. To sum it up, they are saying theres really no need for a lot of protein to get big. We only need about 7 ounces of meat a day, and no more protein than that

There are 2 VERY important things that you need to realize when reading acticles about nutrition/supplementation, etc..

#1 - Does the article apply to athletes ? athletes are not "normal" people. Our bodies function at higher levels of effeciency than normal sedentary individuals. Our nutritional needs are above and beyond that of normal persons. We need more protein, carbs, fats, vitamins and minerals than sedentary individuals. Our bodies and goals are different...

#2 - Who wrote the article ? Was it a general practice MD who treats "normal" people out of a office. Or was it written by a SPECIALIST in sports nutrition, physiology, etc. Who spends his life working in a lab testing theories and supplements on atheltes ? Gen practice MD's ar not educated in human performance only on how to heal the sick.

Most of the Vets here know far more about nutrition/supplementation and human performance than just about any gen practice MD's...

I dont think asicx really knew Lee's stats. :nope:

i wouldn't call Bruce small, small is not a word to be asociated with Lee

FAST, QUICK, RIPPED and DEADLY all come to mind though

(would comment on that article but it isn't loading for me, i'll try again later)

peace

If 135lbs isnt small, I dont know what is. He was definitely all the things you mentioned, D, but come on! I think his size made him that much more impressive. When a 135lb guy beats the shit out of a 220 lb guy....thats entertainment!

First that article isn't geared towards bodybuilders.
Second Bruce Lee got up to 165, but he felt hampered by the mass so he cut back down and focused more on explosive strength. He was a bodybuilder, but of a different kind. He built his body into an ultimate weapon everything was based on function and not form. I must say that his lat spread in Enter the Dragon helped to solidify my love for bodybuilding, I wanted to be able to do that when I was younger.

We've all heard the myth that extra protein builds more muscle. In fact, the only way to build muscle is through exercise. Bodies need a modest amount of protein to function well. Extra protein doesn't give you extra strength. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Really? :)
Everyone who eats an eight-ounce steak typically served in restaurants is getting more protein that their bodies need.
Not everyone, not bodybuilders.
Also, there is evidence to suggest that people who eat high protein diets typically excrete excess calcium in their urine
That is why we supplement ?
Carbohydrate foods shunned by some people on low-carb diets include fruits and vegetables
I will kill the bodybuilder that does that. :D
animal foods that are high in protein are usually also high in saturated fats
Huh ?
The American Heart Association warns: "Reducing consumption_of [carbs] usually means other, higher-fat foods are eaten instead.
No, it doesn´t mean that.
"Most of the studies show results for up to 6 months, but after 6 months they begin to lose effectiveness, either because people do not adhere to this diet very well in the long term, or because they get used to this diet biologically," Hu tells WebMD. "So in the long term the high-protein diets tend to lose their ability to maintain the weight."
Usually we don´t cut carbohydrates like that, when "cutting" it doesn´t take that long too.

...and Bruce Lee is small.

Bruce was small... but he was shredded as well. To be sure, it was his point to be so, so theres no slap in his face for that. Its what he needed.

I dont think Jet Li would be as quick if he added 50lbs of muscle either.

Fact: Bruce Lee had 1 to 2% body fat. I heard a myth that he was less than 1% for a while, too. How is that possible?

Peace.

No way :p I dont think he is more shredded than most BBs of today... and what are they, 3% on the low end?

Probably because in that time they didn´t have very accurate methods to obtain body fat and what they used were not that good in those levels.
I guess it is a myth. No way under 1%. :)

Eggs...LOOK at pictures of Bruce Lee! Seriously, that guy is the most ripped guy I have ever seen in my life.

Peace.

What I meant to say was that some people actually consider him as "skinny" because they don't know what he was all about, as in the longboned no muscle guy from down the street.

I was using him as an example because he was never a protein shake drinker.
Yes, he is a small athlete, but not "small"

My god, those lats!

I mean, come on, he bicep curled 80lbs for 13 times! What a monster.......

And I am well aware of his stats....I've been crazy about him for some time now. I believe his prime was during the shooting of "game of death." Sadly, you don't get to see his body much. In Enter the Dragon, he seemed.....stressed out about something. He just didn't look like himself in some of the shots.
