I heard in the news today that to much protein can cause liver problems> ive learned that you should have 1 gram of protein for every pound in in your body but this specialist on the news said you should have 1 gram for every two pounds...any comments on this?

what they are telling people on the news is based on the average american....and that is someone sitting around doing hardly anything physical. A BBer or athlete of any kind is going to have different needs.

I believe the 1 gram of protein per 1lb of LBM guideline is fine when you are working out and include a proper intake of water and fiber every day. I know quite a few people who eat even more protein than that.

There is a good section in the "BFFM" book on this topic, if you haven't checked that out yet. Wish I had a link to some sort of study on this...I'm sure someone can jump in and provide one

Those studies represent the general American. Bodybuilding/strength/fitness people are hardly representing in health recommendations like that because we are such a small percent of the total population.

The average American is "medically obese".

Isn't that 30+ pounds over ideal weight.. and complaining about it while not exercising and throwing 10 packages of Little Debbie Cakes into the shopping cart while preparing to watch 50 hours of TV a week?

Irrelevant.

Well keep in mind that most protein sources, especially that of animal meat, is "acid forming" and needs to be counter-balanced with alkaline forming foods. So obviously someone who doesn't get their fruits and vegitibles but are taking a lot of protein supps are going to have some inherent health issues with it.

It's again another study that's far too vague and near sighted. You need to take a step back and look at a lot of these things and really realize if they're taking everything necessary into account. Especially when the word "average" is thrown into the mix. Obviously none of us are "average" when it comes to eating and working out.
