To get in shape for the season, Jacksonville Jaguars strong safety Donovan Darius harnesses a 35-pound steel sled stacked with weights to his back and drags it across the field.

I hate running but this looks like fun. :thumb:

Walter Jones, a left tackle for the Seattle Seahawks, uses his SUV (a three-ton Cadillac Escalade) to help with his workouts. Jones' routine is to push the vehicle 25 yards, take a 90 second break, and repeat ten times.

I can see P-Funk doing this in upper Manhatten. ;)

oh ya, i read the article about that in Sports Illustrated Magazine. Pretty cool shit. Those guys are very dedicated and strong.

I love doing things like that. Pushing cars is fun (especially on a slight incline) and strongman stuff in general is a lot of fun. I need to go to a junkyard and ask for some tractor tire to flip. I would do the sled thing, but with my luck it would tear up my yard. It just goes to show that all the curls in the world don't make you a good athlete.

Going into the '04 off-season, Barber knew the biggest flaw in his game was his propensity to fumble. Barber changed his routine to include lifting with higher weights, but lower reps. The result last season was a mere five fumbles, nearly half his average of nine fumbles per year over the last four seasons.

Deads help you with grips....

He is using a double overhand grip, but I could still do over 300 with a grip like that. Surely an NFL player could add a lot more weight when going for low reps... Why not just do good old fashioned farmers' walks though? :)

well, you really don't know what he is doing by that picture though. He could be supersetting it with something else. He could be doing some cleans or pulls since he is standing on an olympic platform. I believe it was last year they were showing Tiki training on NYC television on a Giants pre-game show and he was pullling 650-700lb deadlifts (not double overhand). The dude is pretty friggin strong!

I knew I had to be wrong!

I just assumed he was doing deadlifts because at that point in the clean and press, my traps are usually going up and I'm starting to go up on my toes to get that weight up to shoulder height. Of course, like you said, he could be supersetting, etc.

yea, I mean you never know. He could just have some light weight on there and be taking a picture, ya know? Why load it up to look cool and risk injury. He could have to practice later that day and this is a light workout. Maybe they are warming up for heavy deadlifts? Maybe they are warming up for some sprint work. Who knows.

Watch the video of him training at si.com/workouts

He is doing a saftey squat box squat coming out of a suspended position with like 700lbs on the bar. the dude is a fucking animal.

That's huge, especially at his size.

he is a really thick dude. He lives a few blocks away from me. He is a really nice guy too. He lives in a building were one of my clients lives. He is short but muscular as hell!

I just saw the video, he is stronger than he looks.
I like the way he trains. The situps with that blue bag or whatever it's called is not a easy as it looks.
Functional workouts are cool.

Heres the Tiki Barber link. here

no it is in NJ. Patterson I believe. Actually I think it is Parisi's gym that is owned by Phil Simms but I could be wrong. I know that he trains in NJ though.

I would pay him to be his trainer.

How tall is he 5'9? I have him at 5'9 with shoes on in relation to that bar (standard 7 foot long bar, I assume) and his height.

that sounds about right 5'8"-5'9".

yes, the safety squat bar is 7'.

when i watch that i now understand my hourlong workouts per day are nothing

How much does he weigh?

I am not sure. He is really muscular so he probably looks like he weighs a lot more than he really is, ya know? I couldn't even take a guess. He is thick up top, his quads have to be close to 30", they are huge! Maybe he weighs somewhere around, 210??
