This is my 2nd post here so don't flame me to bad. I tried a search and didn't find much.

At this point in my life I am 25 years old and still only 135lbs. I think the fairy god bodybuilder passed me over when I was younger. Anyway, I straighted out my diet now. I would like to thank the writeups on this website for that. I don't have time for a gym membership and I don't have much weights at home.

My question is will pushups help me gain weight? At this point I can do 133 pushups in 2min. Yes I was in the military once and I was a freak at pushups. I know how much they work for strength. I just don't think I can build mass with doing pushups, crunches and pullups. Am I wrong or should I continue?

Your going to need to inquire weight into your routine somehow someway.

ive been doing pushups for 2 years everyday, they define u and definetly give u some mass, but look at me i just joined the gym last week because the pushups were not giving me the results i wanted, let me tell you im 27, and im also a pushups freak, ive been able to do 400 pushups a day, then just kept it at 200, and all i can bench now is 210 lbs, u really need to join a gym, is only 20 dollars a month if u find the right one. IF you wanna keep doing pushups, get something heavy and put it on your back and go from there. Hope it works for ya.. good luck

pushups won't gain you mass. I usually do a few sets before I bench, but pushups alone shouldn't be your entire chest workout. Also, you should be working your entire body, not just your chest.

99% of IM and bodybuilders alike believe in split routines. Isolating your chest is perfect, doing non-weighted pushups is not.

Yea and I would like to see you trying to get the weight onto your back before doing your pushups.

If your not at a gym and you need to gain mass by only doing pushups try having some one site on back...prefereably a girl under 130.

A gym is clear better choice though. You could always try a variety of incline push ups(with your feet higher than your head like feet on a bench with hands on the floor), push ups with baskteballs, and one arm push ups.

I found the perfect weight for my back. My 3 1/2 year old son. He is 42lbs and he loves to sit on my back while I do them. Thanks for the advise guys.

BTW, you arent doing 133 "correct" pushups in two minutes, certainly not to the normal standard. Like any exercise, you must incorporate complete range of motion, which means your upper arms must be at least parallel to the floor when you have lowered yourself down. I've been in military for over 20 years and have NEVER seen or even heard of anyone doing that many correct pushups. It is pretty much physically/time impossible due to the amount of movement. Besides 2 minutes is two long for a muscular exercise. I think I've seen it here as well as elsewhere that your muscular exercise should be no more than around 45-60 seconds. Tyr doing 3 sets of 50 perfect pushups at a slower pace, 1-2 seconds down and 1-2 seconds up.

I doubt you are going to gain mass with straight push-ups. However, plyometrics may be able to add some level of mass to your frame. Try doing clap pushups, jump squats, calf jumps, pullups, decline situps, etc. I think you could add at least a small amount of mass with exercises like that.
