omg my mom cooked my oats this morning on the stove and put nutmeg and cinnamin and splenda in it, and it was sooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!

I like them. I'll either eat them plain or throw in a tablespoon of natural peanut butter pretty much every morning. I used to eat the apple cinnamon flavored ones that come in the little serving-set packets and I have to say I like plain natural oats much better.

i wonder if most of us were brought up on The raw natural taste of Oats for cereal VS Captain Crunch & Cocoa Puffs....if we would view Natural foods other than Bland tasting? :hmmm:

I agree - water + oats is all you need! :chomp:

Although - add a bit of cottage cheese and cinnamon and I am REALLY in heaven! :D

Good point. Most of were raised on crap food that tasted great. And when we're given great food we think it tastes like crap.

I boil my oats, then eat them with skim milk. Usually eat them twice per day. It's my fav meal.

i'm w/u Ricky Rocket. My mom didn't know the first thing about health & nutrition? The sibs and myself were brought up on Junk Cereals (like most everyone else!) that we easily got addicted 2? I think now adays with the High ratio of "overweight" kids (and adults) some r figuring out that the "Marketing regime" along w/ their over indulging (highly addictive) tasty packaged foods, may b the evil culprit? I do know a box of Tasty Lucky Charms would be a "rare Cheat" at my house.

yeah, the overweight thing is really a problem that is going to be hard for food companies to help with. they all have sugars in things, and if one decides to make it actualy healthy and remove the sugars and bad things, it will taste "Worse" to a lot of people and then they iwll lose a lot of sales, so they keep it at the same taste and nutrition. but the thing is, if they keep feeding people stuff that is gonna make them have a heart attack in 20 years due to extreme obesity, isnt that techincally a bad long term investment?

Yes, very good point.

It's certainly not a good long term investment to have a bunch of Heart attack patients that can no longer contribute to the Economy?!? Maybe this is partly what's wrong (w/ the U.S.) anyway? and why Insurance cost and Medical cost is plain out of control? :gosh:

should i cook my oats in a microwave and then add milk and bananas and eat it for cereal or should i just do that without cooking it and eat it raw?

Which one is better?

As long as you are using rolled oats then neither is 'better' - you can do which ever you enjoy more.

If you are using scotch oats (looks like rice that has been chopped up) or oatbran (looks like very course sand) then you need to cook it.

What about the Old Fashioned Quaker oats variety? Can those be consumed raw?

Seeing I live in Australia and have no idea what these are - I have no idea!

But check out this link... if they are flat, ovid in shape and look like 'rolled oats' then they are likely rolled oats... ;) Which means they can be eaten without further cooking.

Even with all the "new diet food products" this is making the problem even worse..
companies that make diet cereals, breads, bars, etc.. they add chemicals which makes the consumers crave for more and more food

When I was a kid we had two options for breakfast if we wanted cereal.....1. oats or cream of wheat ype hot cereal 2. Sugar cereal but we had to drink a full cup of tigers milk!!!

For those who don't know tigers milk is brewers yeast mixed with liquid, I presume just water. It is lumpy and tastes like sick. Needless to say I grew up on oats....

Question

Every morning i add a cup of dry, rolled oats in a bowl with 1 cup milk, bananas, and cinnamon. I was wondering if this is good for cutting? If not, what should i do instead...and i prefer to eat them dry because i dont like cooking them.

1 cup of oats + milk is plenty of carbs as is, i'd replace the banana with a protein source.... some whey or something... you could use that banana better in a pwo situation.

I use skim milk instead of water and then mix in a tbs of black molasses.
