An alternate reality.
OK, I'll admit, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. But I'm not so stupid as to post my routine and ask if I'm overtraing. No, that's not what this thread is all about. I do have an odd hypothetical question though.

I go into the gym to work a specific body part. Let's say legs. (Because that's the part where this usually happens.) I set up and start my normal routine and about half-way through I realize it just ain't happening. No matter what I do or how hard I try, I'm just not getting a good workout. In frustration, I finally give up and storm out of the gym. This causes considerable frustration and boils inside me for the entire next week. By the time I walk into the gym the following week to work that body part again, I'm so pumped up and pissed off I have an absolutely FANTASTIC workout. Now, at this point, an intelligent person would say, "Yeah, so what? That was simply your body telling you that you were overtraining and forcing you to take a break. You had a great workout the following week, so don't sweat it." Yeah, that's what an INTELLIGENT person would say. Unfortunately, that ain't me. I keep focusing on the fact that I lost an entire week's worth of growth. So, my question is: What if I came back the very next day, after the original failed workout, and continued to work that body part? You know, sort of like finishing what I started the day before. So, what do you think? Is it worth a try?

Unless you can tell after a couple of warmup sets and quit right away, I'd say by the time you're half-way through, you've at least done SOME workout. It may be short, abbreviated, even half-assed, but it's a workout. Let it go and get after it the next time.

Now if you workout in the morning and finish up later in the day, that's another story.

I say when you reach the "BAD DAY" point, quit what you are doing and switch it up to a completely different set of exercises

Hit those super hard and then...

No.

What should be done is to complete the original workout the best you possibly can instead of storming out. This might mean abandoning your original workout plan and using other exercises you like better or dropping the weights and going for higher reps to achieve a better pump. You might even end up having a very good workout.

I'm sorry yeahhh... I had a bad dayyy...

I'm glad I'm not the only one this has happened to :D

Ahhhhhhhh CRAP! I should have included in my original post that I was looking for opinions from everybody except YOU. You don't even think you can isolate upper and lower pecs, why would I want your advice on working out?

 Thanks buddy. I hadn't even thought of what you suggested. I'll give it a try next time. :thumb:
