ok this might be a stupid question....
but how much does an olympic bar(i think this is what they are called) weigh??
i`ve always done my weights at home with a normal bench set...
but recently have been going to the gym at uni which has a good weights room and my bench press has decreased... so the difference has to be the bar its one of those big steel f**kers..
just wanna know so i can work out how much im actually lifting because i use my weights at home on the weekend and don`t wanna get mixed up!!

any help appreciated

I probably bench less on a standard bar, because they are so thin it bites into my hands, its narrow, and it would wobble like crap.

Standard 6 foot, 25ish pounds
Olympic 45 unless its a special bar (Texas Power etc)

Our High School bought new weights this year and we got the thicker bars. It has screwed all my lifts up a little but I am getting used to them and now I have a hard time with the regular sized olympic bars. I wonder if they weigh more?

There was another thread about this issue. What was eventually determined was that the olympic bars generlly weigh somewhere between 40 and 47.5 pounds. A couple of the lifters in that thread weighed the bar to determine it's true weight.

Oh devildog what are we going to do with you.
