P-funk said:lol, yea.....I was watching some videos today. The guys in teh 77 and 85kg class are so friggin' ripped and muscular.....as far as strength goes....I don't know to many powerlifters that can match these guys int heir respective weight classes on a raw squat.
CowPimp said:Sarcasm. People are always bashing olympic routines, full body routines, PL routines, etc. Anything that's not a split routine with every exercise being done for 3 sets of 8-12 repetitions gets bashed by ignorant people thinking that is the only way to build muscle.
* Legion * said:I agree, sorry I missed the sarcasm. Ususally I am on the ball with that stuff. You and I seem to have similar goals and philosophies in the gym.
CowPimp said:I always thought olympic gymnasts had awesome physiques as well. Have you seen the arms and lat spreads on some of those guys who specialize on the rings? They would put a lot of bodybuilders of equal bodyweight to shame.
CowPimp said:Hehe, it's all good. I have something against using emoticons, so my sarcasm isn't as easily detectable.
* Legion * said:Sprinters as well. Amazing musculature. I used to coach discus and shotputters, and had them sprint against middle distance runners. what a sport.
CowPimp said:Damned straight. Honestly, the physiques I always admired most when I first started lifting were those of olympic athletes in various sports. I never said, "I want to look like Arnold."
Hossein Rezazadeh: King of the Jungle
Dubai - He might not have looked his sharpest in the training hall a few days ago, but as the weights got heavier, there was no doubt today about who ruled the platform at the Asian Weightlifting Championships.
The next time you clean and jerk 260 kg, you are allowed to roar too. Hossein Rezazadeh sweeps the gold medals in the supers at the Asian Weightlifting Champions today in Dubai. Randall J. Strossen, Ph.D. photo.
Weightlifting fans are going to be happy not just about Rezaazeh's performance, but also because Saeed Salem Jaber (Qatar) returned to competition.
Jaber opened with 180 kg in the snatch, which was a little rough, but he made it no problem. He took 190 on his second attempt and it was overhead, but it popped out, so he took it again on his third attempt for a good lift.
Rezazadeh made an easy 190 on his first attempt, an easier 195 on his second attempt, and for his third attempt, he snatched 200 kg as if it were a feather.
In the clean and jerk, Jaber made a nice first-attempt lift with 220 kg, and followed it with good lifts at 226 kg and 232 kg.
When everyone else had finished, Rezazadeh started, making an easy 240 kg, followed by a very easy 250 kg, which was capped off with an awesome 260-kg clean and jerk.
Earlier in the day, Said Saif Saad (Qatar) won the 105-kg category with a 390-kg total. Mohsen Beiranvand (Iran) got the silver medal with 383, and Dmitry Frolov (Kazakhstan) got the bronze with 368.

CowPimp said:Damn, he practically snatched that shit for the jerk. Good stuff.
The Monkey Man said:Yeah, it wasn't super pretty, but he totally saved it and walked/balanced it out...
Mega Power!
P-funk said:It is rare to see anyone completely "stick" a lift when they are hitting max's or new PB's in meets. To many variables....pressure, heavier wieght then you normally handle, people, judges, yelling, sound of others warming up etc...I very rarely see anyone just nail it. When they do it is fucking sweet as shit though!
ZLATAN VANEV???S TRAINING IN SOFIA, BULGARIA ON 1999 OCTOBER
On the training camp in Sofia, October 1999, there were three different groups; Group A (male???s national team, group B (female???s national team), group C (challenger male group).
The morning training was start by the group A (snatch), then group B and C did the same. After B and D finished the snatch A started the c+j and B and C followed. Then group A did the snatch again and B and C followed. Then group A did c+j and B and C followed. Then front squat A, B, C. Morning session started at 10 o???clock and lasted 4 hours till about 14.00 o???clock.
After morning session lifters ate lunch and after that took the naps.
The evening session started at 17.00 o???clock by the group A (snatch), followed by B and C. Then A did the c+j and B and C followed. Then A did the snatch and again B and C followed. Then all groups did the front squat. The evening session lasted about till 20.30 o???clock.
On Monday???s and Friday???s evening trainings lifters went to the really maximal weights (100-102 %) and did not use any wraps.
Everybody was concentrated to their own lifts and lifters didn???t talk much. Every time when a lifter hit his target weight on that movement he rose his hand up to get attention from the coaches. And the others respected the lifters attempt. Many times the bars were loaded with weights which were over the world record.
When Finnish coaches asked ???why you don???t do pulls and back squats???, the answer they got was ???in the competition there are no snatch pulls or back squats, only snatches and clean and jerks???.
Here is Zlatan Vanev???s training day on 19 (Tuesday) October 1999. His records in 77 kilos weight class were snatch 165 and c + j 205 and total 370:

BULGARIA THE SUPERPOWER OF THE WEIGHTLIFTING SPORT
Bulgaria has been one of the leading countries in weightlifting sport since the -72 Olympic Games in Munchen. Bulgaria is producing the olympic winners, world champions and world record holders year after year.
Ivan Abadjev is the legendary man who created and developed their own style, Bulgarian style, to train weightlifting. The Bulgarian methodes are different than the Russian methodes (4000 maximal snatches and clean and jerks per year vs. about 600 maximal lifts in Russian lifters).
During the last ten years the Bulgarian style has spread all over the world (Turkey, Greece, Qatar, Iran, Egypt, Nigeria, Columbia, etx.) and many good individuals (lifters and coaches) are using this kind of training system in their training.
Here is a report of the Bulgarian top lifters??? training when they were prepairing for the 2000 European Championships in their head quarter in Sofia.
HARD TRAINING DICIPLINE
In Sofia there were about 30 lifters which were divided to two groups, the top group and the challenger group. There were 15 platforms in the hall and 5 of them were for the women.
Ivan Abadjev was the head coach and Andon Nikolov, Neno Terziiski and Janko Rusev were the assistance coaches. The dicipline in the training camp was very strict and the lifters were professionals and training was their job. Every time when Abadjev was not in presence watching the training the intensity of the training went clearly down. When Abadjev saw that the lifters were not putting all the effort to training he kept very strict speaks to lifters. Lifters got good salary from the training and Abadjev demanded good training dicipline and results for that from the lifters.
ONLY SNATCHES, CLEAN AND JERKS AND FRONT SQUATS
The lifters had six training days per week and on those days they had two training pass a day. Only sunday was a resting day. The first training session start at 9 o???clock and least to 11.30 or even 12.30. The second training session start at 17.00 and least to 19.30 or even 20.30.
On Mondays???, Wednesdays??? and Fridays??? evening training sessions the target weights in the snatches and clean and jerks were clearly higher than on the other training sessions. On those heavy days the lifters tried the target weights 2 to 4 times but on the other days they hit the lower target weights by the first try. The rest periods during the lifts were long 3 ??? 5 minutes and the lifters kept 30 minutes rest every time when they change the lifts (from snatch to clean and jerk etx). During the long rest they were listening the music in their cars or were sitting in the cafe (in the same building).
Bulgarians did only singles in snatches and clean and jerks. They did only front squats and warmed up by triples to 80-85 % but after that mostly singles and rearly doubles. In the squats lifters did only 4 to 5 sets (warm ups sets included). Bulgarians do not any pulls or presses.Younger lifters did abdominals and backs after training by using their own weight (2x10 reps).
At the training lifters drink energy drinks and took sunflower seeds. During the morning and evening training lifters took protein, minerals and vitamin products.
During the day lifters had three meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The normal lunch and dinner included the sallad, soap, main food, and dessert (fruits). The main drink was the water.
NO BIG ALTERATIONS ON THE TRAINING PROGRAM DURING A YEAR
The morning session start with a snatch, then 30 minutes rest. Next lift was clean and jerk and then 30 minutes rest, and after that the snatch again. The front squat was the last movement.
The evening session started with a snatch, 30 minutes rest, clean and jerk, 30 minutes rest, snatch again and then the front squat for the last movement. This was the basic consept in every training sessions. Occasionally on the evening sessions during the lighter days (tuesdays, thursdays, saturdays) they changed the order of the movements: clean and jerk, snatch, clean and jerk, front squat.
The training is similar all around the year. The Bulgarian National Team have three training centres where they train during a year. They change the training places so that the lifters would get new stimulus for their training.
SOME EXAMPLES OF THE TOP LIFTERS??? TRAINING IN SOFIA
On the training camp in Sofia there were also lifters from Qatar (former Bulgarian, Petar Tanev 77 kg). Here is his front squat training program which was similar in the morning and in the evening trainings:
150 x 3 + 180 x 3 + 210 x 2 + 225 x 1 + 235 x 1
Then Alan Tzagajev???s (105 kg) Friday???s (14.4.2000) evening training. On Monday???s evening training he had done 180 kg in the snatch and 230 in the clean and jerk.
1) snatch
50 x 2 + 50 x 2 + 100 x 1 + 100 x 1 + 140 x 1 + 140 x 1 + 160 x 1 + 170 x 1 +
(175 x 1) + 175 x 1 + (180 x 1) + (180 x 1) + 180 x 1
2) clean and jerk
100 x 1 + 100 x 1 + 150 x 1 + 150 x 1 + 195 x 1 + 215 x 1 + (225 x 1) + 225 x 1 + (227,5 x 1) + (227,5 x 1)
3) front squat
150 x 3 + 190 x 3 + 220 x 2 + 235 x 2
THE TARGET WEIGHTS ( SNATCH AND CLEAN AND JERK) FOR GEORGI GARDEV DURING THE LAST 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE 2000 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Every lifters in the training camp have their own target weights for the snatchs and clean and jerks.
Here are the target weights for Georgi Gardev during the last 4 weeks before the European Championships 2000. Gardev had injured his patella tendon and he could not reach the target weights during the last week before the European Championships. But the target weights table gives a good picture how the Bulgarians rhythm the lifts on different days.
P-funk said:thought i would just let everyone know that the Olympic lifting world championships started this week in the country qatar. Some of the lightweight women have already gone and the light weight mens have started today. You can get daily updates on class winners at ironmind.com if interested.
So, who thinks Rezezadeh will clean and jerk 270kg for a new world record?

The heavier guys are coming up this weekend! Look out for some crazy lifts.

I hate them -![]()
I like Zlaten...P-funk said:I don;t hate them, lol, I hate the lighter guys that pull more than me!!
There are two 77kg lifters for the US this year. Matt Bruce and Lance Frye. Both can put up good weight (180kg jerks) but the guys in the classes below them are already getting near that weight. I am curious to see how they do though. There are some 77kg lifters like Vanev who pull over 200kg but he isn't competiting do to a seperated shoulder....Go USA!!
