The threat level (nuclear war) is greater, but the decisions were more clear cut. (and im not marginalizing the difficulty of decisions our presidents had to make during the cold war) I do not think the decision making process during the last 8 years was in any way easier than the decisions of previous presidents. I believe it was even more difficult.

Maybe we should have made that threat and bomb them into submission like we did to Japan, heck they can't compete with us like Russia could......oh wait, the terrorist didn't originate from that country, oops.

you're right, we didn't know for sure. yet we did have channels for negotiation every time a crisis arose. tell me how do we communicate with bin laden? and if we were able to, how could we negotiate with him? we can't on both counts. negotiation with these terrorists is not going to work. im sorry, but it is not. no amount of talking will work. i think the last 50 years of "negotiations" in israel shows this.

To go along with the thinking here I would bomb the whole country killing everyone even the woman and children and even the dogs....why not? they are Muslims anyway right? This way we can do what Hitler failed to do with the Jews.

First off, that's bs.. nobody wants innocent people to die.

Some announce BushCo as being soft these days.

Those that are paying attention wouldn't call the rampage his group is on "going soft". People are just numb to the effects, so the efforts are less felt. It's like a horror movie that is sooo scary you hide your eyes to miss the really gory parts. For example, calling an attempt to lessen the ability of the endangered species act to protect our wildlife from developers is not a soft act. Trying to turn massive areas of our protected public marine environment into a "marine reserve" so it falls under the control of the Dept of the Interior ... thus opening the mineral reserves to drilling ... is not soft.

Safer is not a word that applies to our present condition. We are in a far greater state of danger now than at any time in our post WWII past.

We now have an exponentially increased defense budget. The defense of our country now requires alphabet agencies that in a pre-BushCo world didn't even exist. Agencies that have had to change names because of massive civil rights violations. Our civil rights have been thrashed in the name of safety, the futures of our children are mortgaged to the hilt, and we live in a reality that now ... at this very instant ... includes a greater danger than ever before of seeing mushroom clouds appear over a major city or three. Many experts consider that event eminent. Safe? ... nope. Not even.

We, as Americans, can no longer travel at all through many countries, or even entire chunks of the world, that were openly safe for us pre-BushCo.

The die hard BushCo fans with more loyalty to their party than their country are pushing this situation to an even greater likelihood of attacks on domestic soil by propagating this myth that we are somehow safer than we were pre-BushCo ... we are not even close.
Party first, America second is backasswards. Doing this to put a better face on the Republican party is a very harmful action to take to attempt to ensure a better vantage point in the upcoming elections. Looking at the future with a McCain executive branch is like seeing BushCo with a smoother more intelligent front man. That's scary.

Stepping away from party loyalty is the safest thing you can do for your country. Divesting your self of party identity and voting on the issues is the only way to serve your country in the upcoming elections.

I'd still vote Ron Paul if I thought he had anything resembling a remote chance, but as it stands now he is toast and Obama's stance on increased troop deployment in Assghanistan is not making me feel good about him as a leader either. I say that to stress that we as Americans have some hard choices in front of us , but we need to make them based on our country not any misplaced political party identity. Remember the communist party rode the USSR into extinction. Don't make the same mistake.
