My original idea was to hit 17 stone, which is what .. 238lbs for you americans. One of the trainers at my gym I got into a conversation over this and he agreed, he explained that if I did cut from 17st back down to 16st, after the cutting phase I will get a rebound when I begin to bulk again and my body will have a large growth surge due not being depleted of certain nutrients for a period of time eg. carbs. Do people tend to just cut when they reach their plateau? I'm also not looking to introduce any aas until I'm around 22 - 23 years old either (due to a few worries of which i'm too embarassed to ask haha)

I'm currently 16 stone now (224lbs) and 18 years old. Just wondering your opinion on the subject.

I've been meaning to get a proper accurate reading, but I used one of the machines at my gym which I'm guessing aren't that accurate and it was around 20 - 22%.

They aren't very accurate. They tend to read much lower than you actually are but they are pretty consistent to +/- 1%. Meaning if next month you check it and it says you're 18%, that means you've lost 2% but you may not actually be 18%, you know what I mean?

The main reasons for cutting is so you don't look like a fat ass. Also, nutrient partitioning gets worse as you get fatter but I'm not sure what the hard science is behind that.

All depends on weight/height, bf %, goals.. List goes on. Im bulking to about 17 % or so then gonna cut down.

I would start by not so much calling it a "cutting phase" as much as clean up your diet - I'm assuming that you're starting from wherever your current 'lifestyle' has brought you as opposed to you doing an intended shitload for a while. At your age, you should be able to eat a lot and burn it up / build nicely. But depending on your regular metabolism, hormone levels, etc. you may be the type of person who builds both fat & muscle easily - so the result of an unstructured diet can be you buidlign muscle but getting a lot of fat with it. 20% bodyfat on a guy is a bit hefty relatively speaking. If you start bulking your just going to get fat.

Your trainer is right - one of the nice little upsides of depleting yourself down for contest prep is the anabolic rebound that follows - but the value of all of this will be much better if your dieting habits (i.e quality of food) are already in place and not just you following a "cutting" or "bulking" diet.

For craps & giggles can you post up your typical meal plan - I'd like to know what is 'normal' for you now - i.e how you got where you are now. You're still very young so a few minor adjustments and maybe (I'm assuming.. I dunno) a little more structure, discipline and focus on your goals instead of just being a guy your age and enjoying life, will get you some amazing results w/o even trying. Any additional training / dieting program you do will just optimize what you would have as your 'baseline' set of habits.

(Sorry for the ramble - just sitting here at my age now, and looking at a guy your age who wants to start going after particular results, one of the best things I can tell you is to establish some good eating habits as your normal lifestyle, and the rest will come very easily. I.e look for and learn how to prepare clean foods - e.g. simple chicken, steak, lean ground beef, eggs /egg whites, protein, veggies, potatos, rice, etc. instead of a burger at the fast food joint, Flintstones cereal for breakfast, pizza every night, etc.

I've never really eaten bad foods since I began training seriously around maybe a year and a half ago. It was just the case of structuring the good food at the right times throughout the day because I'd have a tendency of eating a large amount all at once or not getting enough overall in the day. I'd said about april I've tryed to become more focused, but i'll be honest my typical diet now would be:

First meal: (Breakfast; Most needed to improve) Oats
Second meal: (12pm+) 2 - 3 chicken breasts
Third meal/snack: (2-3pm) Beans/Wholemeal bread
Fourth meal: (Preworkout meal; 5-6pm) Either:
Wholegrain pasta/Baby potatoes & 2 chicken breasts
Fifth meal: (9-10pm) Steak(Mon,Wed,Fri because its £££ and moneys tight at the mo :mooh:)/ 2 - 3 chicken breasts

Looking at it it doesn't look much and seems verrrry boring but i've gained around 13 pounds from this. Obviously my breakfast needs to be much better and i'm in the process off trying to add eggs into my diet. Also if I do have a cheat meal it'll be something with some sort of benefit, and it'll be on a large body part day eg. legs so I can utilize it when I'm training.

So yeh I'm not complaining about my diet or anything and i'm already in the habit of eating quite healthily its just going to take a few more tweaks

Just bringin up this thread again as I have a few more questions. Currently I am now 234lbs and put on 10lbs since my previous post in July, but I am now thinking to bulk just until around Febuary to get ready for next summer. I'm estimating around 4 months to cut down if this sounds right?
Also I just wanted to just get an idea on how much weight I will be looking to lose as I'm worried I'll end up looking like one of these men's health/fairy boy guys. I mean in terms of how much size am I going to lose? It seems I hold most of my body fat in my stomach rather than anywhere else on my body.
Anyway I hope someone gets the jist of what I'm trying to ask, I think its just nerves of losing what I've gained as I've never cut before haha.

*Also my diet has changed a slight bit but its still quite lean so it can't be mostly fat I'm putting on

Well in my opinion you should drop your body fat first and with it you should do running regularly. Try to eat less but low calories food like vegetables.

Hi there, body fats are the primary work to do first to get pure muscles,Try to get proteins for body building from fish and chicken breast for least fats and big protein.Manage to eat fiber containing veggies, fruits, green tea.It will help.

your diet looks fairly clean, do you do cardio? id be tempted to add some cardio whilst still eating and see if this leans you out a little. Also eat more veggies

I have another question. Are you guys on the forum governed by what season it is when it comes to bulking & cutting? Or by targets for weight/size before cutting?

not now, i used to bulk and cut winter/ summer. now try to stay lean and cut after little bulk etc
