Hey, yes this is my second post...

Alright I posted in the new members section that I am 18 and a senior in High School. I just received my appointment letter to the Air Force Academy, and will be attending there immediately after High School. Anyways...

I have weight trained since about 1/2 way through 8th grade and have continued ever since, with occassional breaks because of sports, but never more then 2-3 weeks. I get about 6 hours of sleep on average. I also average around 4000 cals a day, balanced well, my mom is a dietician.

I lift 5 days a week, running 3 days a week in prep. for AFA. I do upper body minus shoulders M/W/F and lower body plus shoulders T/Th. I also do abs every night and I tumble (gymnastics) and have cheerleading practice every other night.

On the upper body days I always bench heavy (5x3+3x1, normally) followed by 3 chest exercises (4x6, normally). Then I do bi's/tri's (4x6), varying 1 or 2 exercises per. Then I finish with upper back. Lots of upper back.

Lower body on Tues is Heavy Deads (8x3, including warmup), straight leg deads, and behind the leg deads (we call them hack squats). Then I do ATF (ATF=ass to floor) squats (6x3) and then a death set of squats (1x20, normally resulting in puking of the breakfast). Immediatley after the death set (and the puke) is a 1x20 on leg press (usually resulting in puking of the lunch) to finish legs. Then I do some shoulders and thats it. Thursday is the opposite, I do squats first.

Sorry that is sooo long, but my question is does that sound like Im overtraining? My body seems tired a lot lately. But I am still making gains, Im just wondering if I am holding myself back by training to much.

Thank you all in advance for advice, criticism (good or bad)... I want it all.

-Jeff.

To answer your question, Jesus, yes...

I would deem that overtraining. It sounds like you use a very high level of intensity, so your volume should be very low.

If your hitting your chest, bis, tris, etc. hard enough, there shouldn't be a chance in hell that your able to hit them at all after one day of rest. I take a week in between, as do most people.

When I do upper body on M, I am tight/sometimes sore on W when I workout upper body again, then F I am tight/sometimes sore again when I workout upper body. But since I only do abs/tumbling/cheering on the weekend I always feel good on M.

The reason I didnt think I was overtraining was because I am still making gains. If I did cut back some, would I make bigger gains?

The puking is normally on Tues when I do deads and stuff first, then do the squats/leg press. Sometimes I dont puke I just sit down for a sec and catch my breath and let the lightheadness go away. Then finish up.

Thank you for the advice and please keep it coming.

-Jeff.

EDIT~PS how do you get pics into the gallery? You can PM me with this one if you want to.

I train hard, but I think if you're literally throwing up that's just too much. You're harming your body by constantly doing that to yourself more than you're helping it with the weights IMHO. I agree with the above: lower your volume if it's that intense.

If you're puking, then something is wrong. You should not be puking while training. Vomiting is one of the most catabolic things that your body can do. Perhaps you aren't breathing right. You said you experience light headedness, which is usually the result of improper breathing.

Thank you BulkMeUp.

No one here has honestly been lightheaded after you do a death set on squats or anything? I dont think it is a breathing problem, but I will concentrate a little on my breathing Tues. I didnt puke today... just the usual lightheadedness.

I know I dont train as hard as Steve Michalik or John Defendis and look at them. They are big guys. Would you consider their training overtraining?

Thanks to all.

-Jeff.

Hell yeah they were hardcore on volume. I threw up 4 times a couple weeks ago on the way home from a leg day, I think I only did 4 working sets that week with the main leg work and one set of leg curls. That was with carbs in my body during the workout, and still I was white and green in the gym, then ill on the way home.

You dont need 50 sets for an effective workout. Too much shit for connective tissues and joints.
