This is great, once Mo retires he can take over his spot!
With Paps and Joba together we will have the cutest fist-pumping action show this side of NY.
Papelbon Would Join Yankees, Other Clubs

In an appearance on Sirius XM Radio, Jonathan Papelbon told Jody McDonald and Bert Blyleven that he would consider playing for the Yankees once his Boston career is over:

"Oh, of course. I mean, I think if we can't come to an agreement on terms here in a Red Sox uniform, I mean I think that's pretty much the writing on the wall."

Papelbon says he'd consider joining other teams, too:

"Not only the Bronx, but anywhere. I think anywhere is a possibility. You always have to keep that in the back of your mind because you can't just be one-sided and think that, "Oh, I'm going to be in a Red Sox uniform my entire career" because nowadays that is very, very rare and hopefully we can because there's no question I would love to stay in a Boston Red Sox uniform but I have to do what's best for me and play in an atmosphere where I'm wanted."

Just business now a days for these guys. There is no rivalry between teams.

yea. it is pretty lame and sad to see. the money has really killed all the rivalry and fun.

I am very loyal to the Redsox and its players but when they go to the Yankees, i cut them off like that. It doesn't matter who it is, i hate the Yankees, period.

I used to love Johnny Damon but now i despise him, just complete utter trash. Even if Big Papi went to the Yankees, i will be quick to turn against him. That's just how i am.

Would you be a Yankee fan for 10 million?

Yep

And to be honest. I would probably do it for 70k a year, just to play.

Heck I would probably do it for free. Just as long as my living expenses were covered.

Suck it.

Jonathan Papelbon grouped reporters together to strongly strike down a report that he would be willing to sign with the New York Yankees.
"I don't want to go (expletive) play for the Yankees," he said. "I've been on a team for the past five years that's been in first place more than any other (expletive) team otherwise. Why would I want to leave?"
Papelbon said he was "nowhere even close" to suggesting he would sign with the Yankees.
"Sometimes in these quotes they only see what they want to see," he said.
"[The Red Sox] don't owe me nothing," he said. "This team doesn't need me. I need the Red Sox more than the Red Sox need me."
He said that where he signs when his contract expires in 2011 only has to do with how happy he is.
"For me, I want to go to a place where I'm happy," he said. "For me, the only thing that's important is that, A, it's like a family and B, I have manager and a GM that's going to protect me, and I know that here."
In an interview on Sirius XM radio yesterday, Papelbon said that "not only the Bronx, but everywhere is a possibility" for him to play when his contract expires.

Damon said the same thing.

Ho hum....what a liar, everyone says they will go to the Yankees to get more leverage. The Yankees are willing to overspend.

"Sometimes in these quotes they only see what they want to see," he said.

True...:ohyeah: he's gonna be a Yankee, he's gonna be a Yankee!

Suck it.

Friends, Red Sox Nation, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Papelbon, not to praise him;
The saves that men earn live after them,
The losses are oft referred to as papel-blowns,
So let it be with Jonathan...
Not mine but a good one...from a Boston fan no less.

I hate all this "He said this, he said that" garbage. Just play the game.

I love having Papelbon on the Sox but he needs to learn to STFU once in a while.

Rivera is now 39 years old, I don't know how much he has left in that arm of his but I think the Yankees need to look into finding the best closer out there.

If Paps the best we can get so be it, i'll just put him on mute when he opens his mouth.

Does anyone have the audio on that interview? It seems that every time he opens his mouth he was misquoted.

I don't think he's lying at all.

The Red Sox have the best team in baseball since his career began. He's been in first place more than any other player in the league over his career time span. The Red Sox have sold out every game during that period. It's freakin' Boston.

He loves it here and while his agent is telling him not to sign a team friendly deal now so that he can be on the market and have leverage sooner rather than later, I think in this case, it only benefits the Red Sox.

Papelbon hasn't been very good this year and I'm not sure giving him a long term deal given the type of pitcher he is, is the right move.

Pay him year to year and if he's worthy of an expensive long term deal, the Red Sox have the money to afford him.

Let's be realistic Sox, there is no loyalty in sports anymore.
It's all about the money now and can you blame them?
He's not stupid, he has to look out for himself and his family. He knows once he's not effective he'll be shown the door. Look at the other players before him.

Didn't you hear him on Sirius?

I thought he was funny.

I like the poem, it's the Red Sox fan throwing him under a bus for a reporter completely misquoting what he said that's dumb to me.

I did hear him on Sirius and what he said in the interview is far different than the headline I saw on ESPN dot com that read "Papelbon open to being a Yankee."

Damon's case was unique. The Red Sox were being smart along with the rest of Major League Baseball and the Yankees were not.

If the Yankees pay Papelbon $20 million dollars more than any other team in baseball, like they did with Damon, I'll dislike him but I won't blame him. In Damon's case, a year before he was a free agent, he was the most annoying player I've ever seen. Every city he'd go, he'd talk about how "I would love to play in Washington. I feel like they need a veteran presence in that clubhouse to turn the culture around in DC" or "Oh man, Kansas City!? That's where I came up, I'd love to end my career where it all began and turn that club into a winning team!" Fuck you, Johnny. You were going to the highest bidder regardless of the situation and spouting lies every fucking day saying otherwise was ridiculous.

There's a right and wrong way to go about selling out and Johnny Damon was in the wrong.

He was not too happy with what Pap said and I can't blame him.

I agree, that was wrong.
Aside from him not being a good outfielder I like his bat still. Did they over pay...of course but they have the money.

I did my best to quote them. Notice Bert chuckling.
Bert--If the Red Sox can't come to a agreement is the Bronx a possibility?

Paps--Of course, if we can't come to an agreement on terms...not only the Bronx but anywhere.

That is what he said. You know what, he was honest.
It's now a business and if the Red Sox don't agree with his terms why should he stay.
It's just over blown because of this rivalry, the fans just want him to be a "hero" like what's his name who just retired.
