Can any of the personal trainers on this forum tell me if The National Personal Trainer Institute is a good place to get certified. Or if anyone knows anything about this school let me know. I've look over there website and everything looks good, but you never know.

Thanks in advance

Never have heard of it. What is the website.. i can give you a good idea of how good the school is by looking at some names and some content.

If you're going to go with a PT cert ACE or NASM is much better and more respected than NPTI. Shouldn't be too much more in terms of price either.

I believe ACE is at www.acefitness.org and NASM is at www.nasm-cc.org.

I went to the open house last year for the one in NYC. It was such a joke. They want a good amount of money for these classes which don't look that great to begin with. The insitute is a school for not only personal training but also, bartending and just about anyother "trade" that you only need a certificate for.

You are better off just saving your money and getting a certification from one od the organizations ponyboy has listed.

Never heard of NFPT cert. There are so many certs these days. Some gyms care about certain ones, ither do not. In my opinion the certification is toliet paper. It is a way to get your foot in the door but it does not mean that you are a good knowledgable trainer.

Cool, thanks for the input everybody. Can anyone tell me if ISSA, NASM, or ACE are online classes, seminares or do you just get books and papers to read and than take a test.

Thanks

NASM is read and take the test or attend a live seminar....Not sure about the others.

I'm going to be getting my ISSA materials this month. They have a lot of online stuff, a weekend seminar, and hardcopy materials you use for home study.

Cool, thanks guys are ther any other books you would recomend besides the ones they provide. Also how long did you prepare before you took the tests.

So to become a certified trainer you don't have to take any physicals or fitness tests?

I can't imagine some bloated out of shape fitness trainer telling someone else how to be fit.
