Please help a first time poster guy.
Hello Everyone, first I would like to say how much I respect you guys and this board, everyone seems to be so helpful and knowledgeable about the subject of bodybuilding. Anyway, let me get down to the reason I decided to post a thread. I had actually signed up during the summer when I was really interested in lifting, not that losing interest is the reason I stopped. But more about that later. Lets me give you guys some background information, not that I think many people will be interested but hopefully I can find someone who can identify with me.
I am a nerd. I know more about the starship enterprise than most people know about their own automobiles, while most kids are going out and having fun and partying I'm usually stuck somewhere trying to figure out how to draw my name by entering different equations into my TI-83 graphing calculator and graphing them on the same plot. Anyway, when I turned about 16 I started to get big. I don't know what happened, I never lifted or anything but my chest and arms started to gain mass and people started asking me if I worked out. I thought this was pretty cool so I decided to actually lift some weights and see what would happen, that and I found it a great outlet for stress. I joined the football team, not that I actually planned on ever stepping foot on the field (it was like February and the team was in the middle of off-season conditioning) but I started to lift with them once or twice a week. This went on until the summer when the coach brought out the gear and started talking about how it was time to start some "contact football." Needless to say that was my last time at football conditioning. Anyway, there was an old weight bench in my basement that was there when I moved there, so I checked it out and when everything seemed to be in working order I began using it. I lifted for a solid two months about three days a week. While I did'nt see any improvements everytime I saw someone from school they would be like "Damn you've gotten big, are you working out?" Which brings me to another point, have any of you ever been unable to see improvement while others can? Sorry for digressing, back to the subject. My family moved at around the end of the summer. When I started bringing my gear up my mother said what amounted to "you ain't bringin that crap over my new house." Dismayed I stopped lifting and have'nt touched a dumbell since that day nearly three months ago. I lost all hope until I discovered a rec center in my new neighborhood about a week ago, they have a small weight room which is'nt much along with a swimming pool and a b-ball court. Here's where I need help. I'm 17 1/2 years old, I am about 5'7" and weigh about 200 lbs. I have descent muscle mass but I also have too much fat for it too be very noticeable. I think that I have good strength as when I lifted with the team I could outlift everyone in my group. I want to get pretty big and lose some fat in the process, I realize that I will never look like a big time bodybuilder but I want to be able to feel good about myself and my body. Any suggestions on helping me gain mass and lose fat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and I hope I did'nt bore anyone with the details about my life.
