possible torn muscle?

i wish i could remember exactly when i started to notice the pain but i cant. the only time ive noticed this part of my arm with any straining would be from heavy benching.

ive got an unbearable pain in my arm, right below my shoulder, right above my outside tricep. i normally pench press 3 sets to failure, with 205lbs. the pains hurts so bad i cant even put up a single 45lb on each side :pissed:

anything special i can do to speed the recovery up?

Well the first thing you need to do is take two full weeks off, see how it feals after that....I would also go to a sports Doctor this weerk to gert a professional opinion. If it is really torn you will have to take a full 4-8 weeks off.
 
I would take atleast a week off from any kind of pressing movements or anything that creates pain. Def. see a doctor, it's best to try to heal it when you first start noticing it.
 
yeah that was gonna be my first plan to try taking a week off from anything that involves my arm in the workout. its been acouple days and im already going nuts! LOL i feel like im weaker when i dont have any soreness/heavyness from lifting !

summers coming up ! i dont have 2 weeks! i dont even have 2 days !!

I don't think it is torn, or else I think you would be in a lot of pain. I've never had a torn muscle so I don't know.

yeah i dont think its torn either, but its def strained.

i dont know exactly how much protein helps with the recovery of your muscles, but now i think about it it seems like the pain started shortly after i ran out of protein. been lifting about 2 weeks without it now. could be just a coincidence though

Why would you think not taking a supplement would cause this injury??? Your hurt because you lift to failure and/or overtrain...also it could be poor form while lifting.

I don't think the protein has anything to do with it.
 
Recovery takes as long as it takes, don't matter how much time *you* think you have. Could get a lot worse, if you push your luck and reinjure it before its has healed sufficiently (~10 days to 2 week for a moderate strain).

You can use ice and rest to help recovery, and you can try a muscle rub to relieve residual ache at night to help you rest.

The lack of protein *may* slow down recovery. As has been pointed out, its the misapplication of mechanical force that caused the damage, not the lack of protein.
 
i have this same pain in my shoulder
it began hurting after i started doing flyes...so im done those for a while
all ive been doing now is some push-ups while i try and let things heal.
i dont know if this is a good idea though??

should i be leaving my shoulder alone all together or sould i still do some light work such as inc/dec push-ups?
 
no and thats the only reason ive been doing them

it feels fine when i do pushups but as soon as i get anything over 60lb db's it starts to hurt

i can still do the exercise if i wanted to. but i dont want to do anymore damage then i have

ima hit the weights on sunday and see if i cant do anything, just some light weight. sunday will be a little over a week

Good idea...train on it and make it worse :thumb:
 
Don't train on it if it still hurts. I injured my chest last year and had to take 2 weeks off from all lifting, and 3 from chest movements. I came back fine.
 
definitly dont train on it.

and listen to what everyone has said. i had a niggle in my left shoulder from presses and ceased doing anyfrom of training for a week, came back stronger and no more pain.

how long since you had a break?
