What gave them a bad rep?

I was looking at the label of my dad's Lay's Classics and didn't see anything alarming except for a decent amount of sodium. Out of 10 grams of fat per serving 9 grams were PUFA and MUFA. They seem like a decent source of carbs and EFA's.

Is there something I'm missing?

The baked chips are always good.
Ruffles or lays, they are only made with
sunflower oil, salt, and potatoes, no other ingredients.

Yeah, I usually don't snack on potato chips much anyways. For some reason they never stood out to me, even though their pretty tasty.

it's not just the oil that it's deep fried in that makes potato chips a bad option.

they're a horrible option as a carb source for the fat content and the fact that it's a processed, gross white potato.

yuck.

I love Potato chips. I think they have a bad rap because they are processed. Make your own at home.

Touche. I used to work in a 4 star restaurant where the bar served home made potato chips instead of peanuts. They used various white potatoes, as well as sweet potatoes as chips. They topped them with salt, white truffle oil, and a few other seasonings. Sooooo good.
