hey guys,

im currently doing a full body routine 3 days per week, and i go out running on my off days and come back and try to do 3 x 15 press ups, i was wondering what you guys think, will it hinder me,im doing them purely for self satisfaction and hopefully to gain some muscular endurance. ive always wanted to get good at press ups,
and would appreciate any feed back u guys have.

just do press ups on your workout days. if you exercise your chest and tris every day, they will have no time to repair themselves. this is bad.

I think its fairly safe to do bodyweight exercises nearly everyday. I do pushups/situps almost everyday and it hasn't hindered me at all. As long as you take at least 1 or 2 days a week to fully recover I think you will be ok.

If you're lifting heavy, you need those rest days - to be honest if you're lifting heavy 'enough' a full body workout 3 days a week shouldnt be 'do-able'. I certainly wouldnt do pressups on off days if your benching 3 days a week - in fact you should probably only bench 2 days a week max -

There are lots of stickies on routine design and the PTs on here will guide you but in the main a rest day is a rest day!

why shouldnt i be doing a full body 3 days per week??? ive never read anything that suggests otherwise, and i generally gauge it by how my body feels so i cant see any reasons to do it less than that, having read up more ive decided to move my pressups into my workout and drop my isolation work, or maybe alternate between doing bw exercise and isolation work between workouts (i want to get a balance between strength and muscular endurance)

the advice is much appreciated

oxymoron [noun; ŏk'sē-môr'ŏn'] = exercising by doing press ups on your day off from exercising.

It depends on age, diet, your genetic ability to recover, but in the main, if you're truly training to failure - to really prompt muscle growth, one day to recover between workouts isnt going to allow recovery and growth - there has been a fair amount written about that over the years. You must make your own mind up though.
