It puts the spine in a bad way and it also puts some of the load on the lats verses the chest.

Seems people can lift more on an incline by arching there back because if you arch enough it's almost like your doing flat bench kinda cheating yourself besides it being ugly&dangerous.

ahhh... dammit. lol. every time i do flat or incline presses i arch my back. i was taught to do it that way. :/

bleh, my next chest day is gonna suck. without arching im gonna feel weak as hell.

It may feel week but your chest will be doing more of the work so its a good thing. :)

ugh... i felt week today anyway. i did chest today... and it SUCKED. last week i miraculously went up like 5 reps in every set... this week i barely eeked out an extra rep in just 1 set per exercise. for bicep curls, i actually regressed!

bleh, i should just give up and go to mcdonalds.

When you start benching big, the dead fish technique will kill your back.

Do you keep your back flat doing deadlifts? Squats? No, you try to curve slightly to maintain at LEAST a straight back if not better, this is where the back is strong.

When I was stuck around the 255 area, my shoulders and back said dirty words to me, now I have no problem doing more than that, for reps.

Slightly, not massively, if some guy is about to fall off the bench making an ass of himself, then hes cheating.

I think your suppose to arch your lower back slightly but your upper back and glutes should remain on the bench.I use this technique and havn't noticed any difference once I started moving up in weight.

Yes, were talking a slight arch here with your shoulder blades together and ON the bench, not some Pee Wee Herman kind of benching technique. I noticed a difference of 15 pounds on my bench right away, once I get the technique down after a week of practice with 135.
