I was wondering how much protein the body can digest and use at a time. Some protein drinks are 50-60 grams of protein. My question is, is the body using all 50 grms for muscle growth or is it just using about 30 grms and throwing the rest down the chute? Because I have wondered if it would be better to spilt a 50 grm shake up a into 2/25 grm shakes. Thanks for your help.

CJ the body can only absord 30 g at one sitting, anything ovber that you're just pissing it away. Or shitting it down the crapper.

How do you know it can only digest 30grams at one sitting? (just curious)

Would that 30 gram limit apply to everyone without regard to weight or body fat? Does time since the last meal come into play? What about if you just worked out? What if you had just run a half marathon?

Somehow I just don't believe that 30 gram limit blanket statement.

Body weight is definently a factor because I weigh 108lbs so I will absorb way less then a 200lb person. Scientists seem to still not be able to decide what the RDA for protein is but it is definently different for a BB than it would be for a marathon runner. most research i have read still says the max. is 0.8/KG, far lower than what you would think. I'ld say calculate how much protein you need, anywhere from 1-3g/lb depending on what your goals are and how your body grows and then divide it up into your 6 meals that way you aren't getting too much at one sitting. with the amount of protein we eat, most of it is prob. getting deaminated anyways but at least splitting it over a day is more productive. in all likelihood, i'ld say the amounts of protein we eat are far more than we realistically need but better to get more than not enough.

Ok so then these 50-60 grm per serving shakes are useless?
I was just wondering though i think a person can absorb more at certain times but thanks for your help.

If you gradually up your protein intake, your body will adjust likewise............it will slowly be able to digest more protein at one sitting!! As for how much not sure???? Maybe GP can help on this one!
