After reading over couple of forums, I am confused on the protein per body weight. Is it 1g-1.5g per pound(lbs) or kilograms(kgs)?
How much % of this protien do you guys get from ur favourite supplement bar/powder?
thanks!

I take about 1g to 1.5g per pound. I think the ON whey I am using is 23g per serving. I take 1 scoop pre w/o and 2 scoops post w/o. The rest I get from tuna, chicken, fish, etc.

The reason as to why you are confused is because the official protein intake suggested by for muscle growth/performance athletes is in the order of 1.6-1.8g per Kg (for the general public it is as low as 0.8g/kg)... But most people in the BB world actually near on double this to use 1-1.5g per POUND as their intake guidelines.

Personally, I think that someone who is active and wants to build or maintain a high level of muscle, while maintaining a good body composition should aim for 1g per pound as a good minimum.

Anyway, there is a good article titled Beyond the Zone: Protein Needs of Active Individuals if you want to read more on some of the recent research into the area.

As for the % to get from suppliments - I am a firm believer in real food. I think it is far more beneficial to nearly everyone to get nearly all of their intake from this. Sure, the extremely massive juiced elite BB guys, who eat 400g of protein/day, may benefit from higher intakes of supplements... but for everyone else, with the exception of the times immediately surrounding a workout period, food is better.

I started eatin 1.8 grams of protein per pound of weight a few months ago and have noticed great results.Prior to this I was eating 1.2 grams of protein per pound.I also cut back on my carb intake when I raised my protein intake, so the increased weight is not just a simple result of increased calories.I try to get as much from real food as possible and make up the rest with supplements.

Wow....Thank you all for you explanations. Emma-Leigh, special thanks. You cleared a big confusion for me.
