I've always stuck to the rule of thumb where we eat 1g of protein or more per pound of bodyweight during bulking phases.

I ran into a powerlifter at GNC who says I should cut that in half on non-training days to keep the fat off. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Shouldn't we FEED our muscles on recovery days?

Never get pulled over with a baggie of whey protein on the passenger seat...

It's amazing how some people can get big knowing so little. You need to FEED those muscles on off days. Those are days in which your muscles are repairing themselves, so eating protein on those days is critical.

Oh its a must. Your off days are your grow days...

Did he give you an explanation for this?

You should eat as much, if not more, protein on your off days.

Just because the majority believes it, does not make it true!

Its not eating to much protein that makes you fat anyway, its eating more cals than you need that does it.

Some people, geeeeez

Just another day in the gutter

You could argue that less protein is needed on non-workout days (less protein synthesis, no post workout meal, less ATP and glycogen depletion, etc), but you wouldn't want to cut it so drastically.

Better be safe than sorry, so to speak. Just eat the same amount of protein of training and off days.

Thanks for setting me straight!
