In the mornings I usually just throw a bunch of stuff in a blender and pound it before I go to school. I usaully put in two scoops of protien (about 40 grams), two table spoons of peanut butter, a packet of oatmeal, about half a cup of low fat yogurt and mix it together with milk. I was thinking though that I was taking too much protien at once. I was wondering how much protien your body can absorb at once or if too much could hurt you?

50G of protein per meal is fine, especially if you are bulking.

thanks, I just wasnt sure how much your body could handle at once.

Actually 50Gs of total protein in one sitting is pushing it! I dont care about bulking or not! YOUR BODY SIMPLY CANT USE IT! Excess protein is broken down and pissed out and EVEN (god forbid) stored as fat!!!!

EAT what you need with a MAX of 1.6g per kilogram (edit for tuff guy) of body weight. Proper diets should never require the use of ANY supplemets

Its all about nitrogen balance not what joe blow tells you in the locker room.

your body can process 40 g at a time, but that does not mean that all that you take in will be absorbed, and used, even if it less then 40. so i say shoot for more just to get the 40

Get your freaking facts straight son , if you dont know what the hell your talking about , you shouldnt post here . If you thought 1 second about what you just posted , you said 1.6g of protein per kilo. So , someone whos 100 kilos should eat 160g of protein , btw a 100kilos is 220 pounds . This makes no sense at all. Reasearch what you say next time. Maybe you shouldnt listen to what the hell they tell you in the locker room.

Still dont get it do you ? Its 1.5g of protein per pound(1kg = 2.2 pounds) , not kilo . You havnt realised that 160g of protein for someone whos 220 pounds is incradibly low . I think you should go back and get your facts straight once again. Talk to any health professionnal and they will tell you for soemone even cutting 1.6g per kilo of body weight is low. Someone with a university degree in nutrition or dieting.

Snoops , I would listen to jodi 10 times before I would listen to Bones if I were you.

Thanks SIMBH you have proved my point once again. I think you should put down the muscle bound weekly and look at some real studies and scientific journals.

Do you have any idea what nitrogen balance is? If not then pipe down!

snoops listen to all the hype you want, but only take the REAL science for truth.

Sorry about the quality.

This is not true for three reasons.

1.Meal Macro's

The amount of protein consumed in a sitting and the gram amount of protein consumed daily are ony indirectly related. You can easily consume more protein by spreading out meals.

Most bulkers also consume a larger amount of fat, which will slow the digestion of protein as well.

2.The actual bio-availiblity of your protein source.

For starters, everybody is different. Some people can process more protein than others  I personally wouldn't consume more than 55g of 'whey' in a sitting. THAT would go right through me. (literally) But I can eat 80g of chicken in a sitting if I have to.

3.Water consumption

I STRONGLY beleive that you need more than 1.5 gallons a day to process more than 1g/lb of LBM. I can tell you this just by monitoring certain actions :)

From personal expirience, I can tell you that since I've been closely watching my diet I have LOST a significant amount of fat. I consume 2.3 grams of protein per pound of LBM.

(350g of protein, 350g of carb, and 65g of fat a day)

Oh, and another thing Larry. I'm pretty sure that Soy protein, increases your estrogen levels

Find me an natural body builder with kidney problems larry

I guess well just die of a kidney failure luke , and with creatine , were doomed , doomed I tell ya ! Anyways , this is one book. Its weird how the canadian guide of healty eating. A simple guide for the average joe to how much of everything he should eat ... And it roughly recommends to eating more than 100g of protein. I guess Canada is on the way of a major kidney failure.

Be my guest , take a look at the canadian eating guide and keep in mind our population is in better health than the us population.

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpfb-dgpsa/onpp-bppn/food_guide_rainbow_e.pdf

Its a nice little rainbow. Do the calculation , even on the lower ends of the recommendation , and you easily surpass your little 1.6g per kilo . Oh , and we have a public health system here , so its in the interrest of your governement to have a healty population . Better health = lesser spendings in health care for our gov.

REAL endurance athletes don't study diet/nutrition. They consult dieticians/nutritionists. There are a couple of those on this site :)

I doubt larry cares about size. He's a healthy dude. He just wants to fit in his rally car

Yep , but snoops is bulking I believe , the whole point of this thread was to answer his question ...

Guys your missing my point! Bulking or not! protein simpley does not make you bigger as you know only spending countless hours in the gym signals for the production of more muscle fibers..............

Me being a vegitarian is a moot point........I have no problems with meat eaters or the consumption of flesh but rather mis-information.......

and im not bones! bones is a alter ego of all of nagle inc...... I just happen to be him today........

Most would argue that 'real' athletes use gear

Nobody is saying Protein 'causes' muscle growth. They are saying it's essential though.
