do push ups still have a place in your work out programme? if so on what day and how many do you do? my reason for asking is after a while out with a chest injury i was allowed to do push ups with some light weights and have found myself loving doing them , after years of not

last thing for tris, shoulder width, elbows in, 4 sets to fail 90 sec rest between

They can be good. I have a weighted vest that I wear when doing pushups. You can do wide pushups, diamond pushups etc.

i do press ups for strenth conditioning, loads of different variations,
hands touching, hands in opposite angles,1 hand on raised surface like a thick book or medicen ball, clapping press ups, explosive so all hands and feet leave the floor.

these are more so for strenth not bodybuilding

Pushups are great for strength, overall chest muscle endurance , and extremely beneficial to hardening and definition of the chest area. Without a doubt a must in your chest days. I do them everyday at least a 100. Look at all the prison inmates wonder why they have chests like 300 warrior , it ain't just benchin when your bored in a cell drop and get out some aggression.

I hate push-ups, but after what I read I'll reconsider that :D

yea but when you don't have anything else to do but lift, you'd do it so much it wouldn't matter. Plus so many inmates get access to weight lifting too.

I do a few sets of pushups sometimes at the end of a workout.

I dont do anykind of pushups, pull ups, all heavy weights and recent articles show warm up doesnt do much for you

Pushups everyday would cause overtraining, and would probably tax your chest and shoulder workouts.Maybe at the end of a chest or shoulder workout.

I sometimes superset cable flys with pushups to really finish em off at the end of my chest day.

so push ups are only really used a warm up not to build strenght or muscle

Pushup will build strength and muscle if weighted , it build endurance in the chest and definition. Most bb's are against pushups because they have no endurance

Its also very easy to get hold of gear in prison belive it or not ;) so push ups do help but they aint gonna make ya no 300 warrior on there own lol

I understand why you don't do push-ups, but why not pullups? Pull-ups are one of the most useful exercises for back development.

Do pushups. But know that you're not going to get but so much of a response. If you're looking for conditioning yea, churn some out. You're probably not going to get a super big chest unless you can add resistance. Or you could do crazy large amounts like Herschel Walker... and you'll need to eat accordingly.

^ yea don't get me wrong I'm def not saying your chest will grow at all from pushups . Just give you more endurance on chest days and add definition

i think pushups are a good for warm up but since i have to do army PT everyday i do pushups every morning and i actually think it helps a lot with endurance seeing as when i lift i do heavier weights with less reps. and doing them in first thing in the morning use to be tough because it was before i ate anything but now i enjoy doing the pushups and i believe it helped my endurance. just dont expect to get awesome strength or size from them alone. but i do 2mins of pushups til fail everyday, and unlike what someone else said, i'm no expert, but i don't think that is over-training but i could be wrong
