I'm currently on a push/leg/pull split. I did Push Monday and got stuck out on a road trip tues- Fri. I plan on doing Pull Friday, Legs Sunday and then getting back into Push Mon./Pull Wed./Legs Fri. Is this the proper protocal to follow when you can't do the routine you missed scheduled lift days?

I would just start on your next training day with whatever you were doing next. It will throw off your split, but it doesn't matter in the end.

Since I only lift 3 days a week and I'll be caught up on Sunday, should I jump back in with "Push" on Monday to start it all over again? This is what I think is right. Just looking for some confirmation.

My suggestion was to not lift until Monday. On Monday start with pull, do legs on Wednesday, and push on Friday.

What is the sense in wasting Friday/Sunday? I haven't lifted since Monday. If I do a pull workout on Friday and a leg workout Sunday, then start again with push on Monday, is that overworking muscle groups?

Ah, well if you can workout Friday, then what I would do is pull Friday, legs Monday, push Wednesday, etc. There is no protocol for this. However, this is how I would do it.

Not trying to argue here, but why not pull friday, legs sunday, push monday?
Continue cycle. I don't get wasting Sunday when it is available. Explain please.

just do the workout the way you want, there is no reason to skip if you don't have to. you are only hitting muscle groups once a week and your shortest rest period is from Friday to next Wednesday if you do legs today. 5 days is more then enough, then you will be back on schedule.

I do a push pull legs and find that the only thing I can't to to alter my split is go back to back to back training days, I'm cooked by the last day and it's a waste of time. I also have a hard time if I follow a leg day without a rest day.

Push Pull rocks!

Personally, I don't worry about the day I workout on at all. The only part of my split that I adhere to religiously is the order. I rest as needed and if a workout gets skipped for whatever reason, I just do it the next day (or the day after next if I need a rest). I think people do too much planning/worrying when Monday is always back Wednesday is always chest etc. That leads to more missed workouts and certain bodyparts getting skipped just so you can get back on a meaningless schedule.

I would just go in and bang out a little bit of pull and legs and then start over on monday.

Just so you're not forced to lift two days in a row. It really doesn't matter. You would probably be fine doing any of the methods mentioned. I just said what I would do.
