I've been reading about the post-insulin spike in the stickies. There seemed to be some controversy on whether or not it is necessary to spike the insulin after a workout. I've been having success eating my only carbs for the day post-workout, so I do plan on sticking with it.

For my post-workout carbs I've been having a protein shake with skim milk, and usually an apple. But I've been reading in lots of posts that fructose is not an ideal carb to consume. So, what do other people have post-workout that is high on the Glycemic index? And what is everyones opinion on that "golden hour" after a workout?

Skim milk is decent PWO

But if you want something more traditional. Powdered Gatorade with your Protein

After my Post Workout Shake, on my way home, I usually munch on 1/2 of a cold baked potato or sweet potato. But's that's just me. I'm very hungry after my work and have a difficult time waiting for an hour for a meal, so the potato gets me home until I prepare something for dinner.

I'd love to have powdered gatorade with my protein shake, I'm definately giving that a shot! I have always just been a little paranoid about sugar and gatorade powder definately was not something I would have considered having. I find I'm hungry too after a workout, I'll try a sweet potatoe as well. Thanks.

Wow that sounds pretty good, I've never had indian food before. Do you use white or brown rice, and I'll probably use skim milk because that's what we have in the fridge. I'm going to give that a shot this week and see how it goes.

I use leftover white rice. Skim milk works perfectly.

Kheer!!!! You should know that there are various types of them & they are simply awesome. My mom makes all the time. Try adding grounded Cardamom to it..taste's amazing. Folks like to eat it hot but I prefer chilled.

Next time you go shopping try RasGulla aka RajBhog....its made from panner and marinated in sugar syrup( if you mind the sugar syrup then you can squeeze it, so most of the syrup is out of it.)

You might also like Bengali Sweets.

I've had rasgulla many times. And I always put cardamom in my kheer.

There are many, many Indian sweet shops in Vancouver. You people LOVE sugar! LOL!

Many Indians in Vancouver?

Nice to hear that :)

Dextrose is a good choice of post training carbs for glycogen resynthesis, Dextrose goes straight into the blood stream, gets into the system straight away. Fructose has to be metabolized firstly by the liver and is then used for liver glycogen resynthesis, Muscles lack the enzyme for using fructose for glycogen resynthesis.
