how much carbs/protein is too much?

ive been doing:
2 cups grape juice=80g sugar
1 banana= not sure off the top of my head
2 scoops protein powder in water= approx 50g protein

too much?
approx. 650 calories.

I think you misread Fish. Personally I think that PWO is garbage, but if it is working for you then go ahead. Why use Juice?

lemme rephrase.

a lot of calories

650?

that seems like way too much, id pass out in about 20 minutes after that much grape juice.

i have been using juice becuase i ran out of dextrose...for awhile i was using 80 grams of dextrose in my protein shake and that would be it.

ive been using the juice becuase it is high in sugar.

My PWO shake is usually about 650 calories, but it consists of skim milk, whey, and oats.

mine is.
A juice, protein bar, and a sandwich.
^ is this bad.

Your PWO shake should be based on you.... That is - your weight, your goals, your workouts, your total dietary intake and your total calorie requirements...

So it is hard to say whether or not that is too much/ not enough without information about the rest of these things..

I think fruit juice is a good option as part of your PWO meal, none of that juice from concentrate rubbish though.

I often have a fresh fruit smoothy after I train to get my simple carbs in and help me achieve my 5-a-day of fruit and veg.

I also add whey protein (approx 50g)

Oats and non-fat yogurt are sometimes involved depending on my goals.

Fructose is the pricipal sugar in fruit juices and and needs to be converted in the liver to glucose or glycogen.

so is a fresh fruit smoothy as part of your PWO a good idea, I was always told some fruit as an excellent part of an effective PWO.

some fresh fruit is good yes. ie berries but juice and fruit are two different things.

Use another source ie. Oats, dextrose (if you want), Milk,

A popular choice I've noticed is oats, yogurt, banana, and whey in milk. If you don't like oats just get some frozen berries and blend that in with your whey and yogurt. Fruit is good for PWO but I'm not sure you should have all that fructose sugar loaded juice.

What do you use IainDaniel?

Some Protein Powder, Cultured Yogurt, Skim Milk, oat bran, and raspberries.

love that gut bacteria do ya? I need to start getting cultured yogurt... see if it helps my regularity

I love oats with whey the only reason I was using more fruit was due to the fact I've been told and read in the past that for your PWO u should try and get approx 80g of simple carbs and 50g of whey.

Oats are complex carbs but u guys reckon there's more benefit in mixing complex with simple do u?

I got no problems with that, personally oats with choc whey, throw in some almonds and cinnamon is like a treat meal to me as I enjoy it so much!!!

So to conclude 1/2 cup of oats, 2 scoops of whey, 1 large apple and possibly a non-fat yogurt with honey is a goos PWO.

P.S. I aslo take BCAA's and glutamine along with it.

i've always thought that you wanted to stick towards simple carbohydrates because of the fact that you eat a meal approx. an hour after your PWO meal?
