question about calorie increase

if youve been on a low calorie diet for a while, say 1600+ a day and realize you should probobly be dieting more around 2200 or so, is it bad to increase your cals all at once up 600 a day, or should you slowly work yourself into it say 200 a week or so, so that you dont gain alot of weight?
 
slowly work yourself up to a normal intake
