Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I don't know too much about this kind of stuff...

We all know that you can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, but is it possible to gain fat and and lose muscle at the same time?

The reason I ask is because the past month I have fallen off of my diet eating a lot of junk and cheat meals, but have stayed the same weight. My strength continues to go up or stay the same on most of my lifts (which wouldn't make sense if I lost muscle I guess) but the mirror is showing some fat gain on my stomach and face. I guess it could be water weight and bloating, but even after a week of my normal diet, I still feel and look like I have gained some fat. If I have stayed the same weight, is it safe to say that I am over reacting or is my first question possible?

Either way is possible it's just not that easy to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.. and if you do you won't excell that greatly in either. And of course it's possible to lose muscle and gain fat if your diet isn't great, you stop lifting or using your muscles the same way and if you're eating more calories than you burn in a day.

If your strength is going up in your lifts and or staying the same then you're probably gaining a little muscle or holding onto what you have.. you could just be retaining some water, getting a little bloated.. your diet may need tweaking.. the best way for you to know yourself it to take progress pictures and/or get your body fat percentage checked
