if say every so often (maybe once every 1-2 months) you take 4-5 days off from training, does that screw up your body or routine much at all?

cause i had planned to train thursday, but due to the power outage, i couldn't... that was fine though as i was debating making that my day off anyways... then friday came around and the gym was still closed... i wanted to go today before work, but it's raining pretty hard and to get to the gym i'd either have to walk or rollerblade and it's a good 30 minutes away... tonight my good buddy returns from a 5 week trip to greece so we have a big night out on the town planned and i doubt i'll be in any shape to want to train tomorrow... so if i took thurs-sun off, would that mess up my training too dramatically?

No its good to take a break every now and then.

I usually take a week off 2-3 times a year :)

I think thats a bit frequent for a natural person, but you have to be the judge. As long as it doesn't go much over that it may not affect you much if at all.

I know guys that take a 1 weeks break from training every 8-10 weeks.

I personaly can't justify taking a break. Even when I went to cancun, I had no were to lift but I still ran 3 miles a day. I hate taking breaks and being sedentary.

I don't think you need to take an entire week off and do nothing but I definately think every 3 months or so it's good to take a week or so and drmatically reduce your volume, intensity, and exercises.

For example maybe train 3 times instead of 5 or 6 and do fewer exercises with less weight and less intensity.

After the week is over your body should be re-charged and ready for added intensity.

I take a week off approximately every 12 weeks, which works well for me.

nothing wrong with taking a break to let your body have some extra time to recover, especially after a big heavy lifting cycle, it is refreshing to go in after that not being sore, just not too often or too ong of a break.

it's all good, it stopped raining and i was still able to get into the gym for a nice leg and shoulder work out before work :)
