Is it unusual for the shoulders to hurt after doing db flies? I tried them for my frist time 3 days ago and my shoulders are still killing me. Is this common?
I'm sorry but you have to find your best exercise on your own. The shoulders are involved in both of them. Just try db flies for a few weeks and you will see whether you like it or not, and what feeling you'll have in your chest. I like both exercises very well. So I do some db flies (incline, decline etc.) for a few weeks or months. Then I change this exercise and do some cable movements.
EDIT: Don't worry, flys are not going to fuck your shoulders up. You will see, after two or three chest workouts, your shoulders will no longer hurt.
Keep your elbows parallel with your shoulders and then lower until you feel a good stretch across your chest. Concentrate on contracting the chest muscle to bring the weight up. If your shoulders are hurting its likely your using too much weight and letting ur elbows lower towards your waist to compensate.
