i got sick and tired of being teased in school about my weight,so after my freshman year i started lifting and nobody knew who i was when i came back my sophmore year.after that i fell in love with lifting......
 
I had gained 15 lbs in less than a year and a half since graduating college, and none of it was muscle. I was travelling for my job 5 days a week, eating like crap all day and topping it off with several cocktails with dinner. I decided I needed to do something about. I joined a health club (at the age of 24) and have been lifting for the past 24 years.
 
Ecellent . Both of you posted answers i didn't excpect . I did it all for the nookie and a little respect as well .
 
Me and my wife have started because we wanted to do something together, and figured it might as well be healthy.

Also, makes the nutrional requirements easier. Nothing like eating tuna, while the other eats steak. :( Just works out better for us if we are on the same page.
 
All I remember is when I was 15 years old my step brother, who was away in college, left one of those plastic weights set in the basement. I went down there one night and start lifting weights, of course I really did not know what I was doing, but I remember I managed to get a pretty good pump.
To make make a long stary short, I've been lifting weights ever since, 16 years later.
 
to be honest i started to attrackt a sex partner but as the time passed i simple fell in love with lifting and i cant imagine a week without lifting weights i have membership to Gold's Gym but also a complete weight set at home just in case.
 
started out just to keep in shape, as time went by I began to feel better, looked better and had a better outlook on life.
 
I was a skinny pussy.
 
yah know its funny the guy I was dating a year ago before I lost fifty lbs saw me after the fact and was like omg your ribs are showin thats not cool... he didnt congradulate me or ne thing... I was like yah know I worked hard... screw you :finger:

My reason

The reason i started BB was because i wanted to be the 1% of people who were body builders. I wanted to be known as a bodybuilder, i wanted to have huge muscles and when people would look at my bicep they would be afraid or BARF because it was so huge. I wanted to push my body to the limit and see how far i could go. I love bodybuilding, its my life, and i would sacrifice anything for it. ARNOLD is my hero. I respect everyone who Bodybuilds.
 
My first reason for wanting to lift weights was I thought the guys and girls that where in magazines like Flex and Muscle&Fitness looked awesome and I wanted to look like a Pro Bodybuilder but I also always thought guys with big muscles had no body hair so that is a big reason why I started.

My other reason why I lift is cause in highschool I could bench and squat more than the guys who used steriods, and it naturally came easy and in school I was looked at as a Monster and could beat the hell out of 95% of the kids in my school.

Now I lift for sheer size and strenght and to GO PRO.
 
I wanted to put on some size and strength for hockey and I have. now bodybuilding has taken over and become my life.:thumb:

When i first started I wanted to be in better shape. I had almost no muscle in Highschool. Now not only is it something i enjoy and do to stay in good shape, it is something that helps me to maintain balance in my life. Before i got laid off, i was working 40 to 50 hours and going to school. I viewed working out as a time to give my mind a chance to relax, as lifting does not require the same type of thought and concentration school, studying and my job required. I was giving my mind a break.
 
I started lifting when I was about 15, I was inspired by all these big muscles and big bods. I just want to build a big badass body that people admire and stare at in awe.

Besides looking better and being more healthy, Im motivated because I am applying for the Fire Dept in August. The physical aspect of the job is very demanding, and I am trying to build more upper body strength.
 
I started lifting when I was single to put some mass on my skinny frame, which I hoped would look better to the females. After I got married, I quit lifting because of my job. 6 years later, I became seriously depressed and even considered suicide a time or 2. My wife joined a gym to take kick boxing and I joined because it was cheap. I had tried to get back into training before and couldn't find the motivation. Now, after 12 months, I've gained more mass than ever before and my outlook on life is much improved. I love to hear peoples reactions when I take my shirt off. I tend to hide behind my clothes (when I wear any) and it surprises people when they haven't seen my in a while.
 
Another reason i started was my older brother was the bully type . He was always working out , beating up on me and my brother and always getting all the ladies . Well time has told me that i have stayed in good shape , am good to other people and now am getting the ladies . Meanwhile he has ignored himself , gotten fat and miserable . He again motivates me to press on . Thanks big brother .
 
Well, I used to be real scrawny, and I hated taking my shirt off at the beach. I was embarrased by my thin frame. Now I can take my shirt off with pride and strut around like BIG SEXY MAN! :D I've been working out for six years now. I'm still not as big as I'd like to be 'cause I'm a hard gainer.

Besides, the wife admits she would have never went out with me that first time if I was scrawny. Well, at least she's honest. :laugh:

So I guess I started working out in order to feel better about myself.
 
i wanted to be a hardbastard plain and simple i want to be able to fight and win. This is not to say i'm a thug i'm fitness instructer
i want to go into noholds barred so that i can challenge my body and mind and to be able to push myself beyond what i can do normally.

Well I gained waaayyy too much weight with second child and hated the way I felt and looked so I took matters into my own hands and feel tons and tons better... :)
 
I was 13-14 when I started and have always been in good shape. Got back into it a few years back because I was starting to put on some weight and didn't like it.
Now its just a way of life. :)

Everyone in my family is tremendously overweight. 20 years ago, I was still maybe 120 pounds... :hot: 5 years ago I was about 130 and now I'm at 150. HOWEVER, I know that from lifting weights since highshool really was what made the difference. I have to much boyfat now, I know but I didn't gain it in a day, so I'm not going to lose it in a day. I'm also muscular enough that my friend has asked if I'm thinking of competing. :lifter"
 
Sounds good . You should do what makes you happy .
 
When I first started lifting it was just because I wanted to show this big waterhead football player that I could be just as good/strong as he was.A couple years into it I was hooked and only cared to compete with myself and work for my personal best.That was in 1984,I 've missed some workouts since then ,but I'm still at it.Sometimes I get some funny looks because where I live there aren't any other bodybuilding hair stylists that I know of.:cool:
