An alternate reality.
A different thread on overtraining got me to wondering about the recover time necessary for smaller muscle groups vs. larger muscle groups.

For instance, let's compare quads vs. biceps. Since the biceps are a much smaller group of muscles compared to quads, you're stressing fewer muscle fibers when you work them. For that reason, do biceps require less time to recover and repair themselves? (Assuming both muscle groups have been pushed to their absolute limit.)

I don't know science, but my quads hurt for days and my biceps are rarely sore. Triceps are still giving me DOMS right now from Sat workout where I switched the exercise and went extra heavy so I think it depends more on your current conditioning for recovery. If you train bi's every day they will never be sore, train them once a month and they will hurt like hell. Like calves, they are always conditioned so it's hard to get them sore.

Hey dude!
Muscles like biceps and triceps need less workout,so they body repairs them fast as compared to big muscles like chest and back.So workout limited and boost your muscles with whey proteins so that they actually grow!

wow, didnt know that! so whey protein helps biceps grow?

yes man!

@pasamoto didn't you know..?? your fiet is much much important them exercising !! you need to consume huge to gain huge..!! well i pprefer using ON 100% gold whey !! my favourite :)

wow! i will def stop eating all this useless food and get some protein powder for my biceps

the intensity of training should dictate the time needed for the CNS recovery. using DOMS is also a poor method of judging recovery time as different muscle groups are effected more or less to it's effects. the closer you are to using working sets with loads close to the 1RM in a exercise the more time it's going to take the CNS to recover. light loads at 50% of the 1RM don't tax the CNS much or cause micro-trauma to skeletal muscle. with loads so light you could exercise the same muscles daily with no adverse effects, except boredom.
