When performing say 4 sets of an excercise should each set be performed to complete fatigue and failure or should that be reserved for the last set?

I'm not a fan of failure training for all sets, it is very hard on the body. For short periods of time it's good but you have to cycle it.

It depends on the program however for longevity sake you should not go to complete failure only to the rep before the last one you can get in good form. What makes you grow is the progression of the weight or volume of weight being lifted not the amount of effort you put into the last rep. It is making the body do something new that requires adaptation. If you stopped where you had 3 reps left on every single set but kept increasing the weight over 3 months you would be bigger than when you started even if you never went to failure.

depends..if you are a beginner or a teenager ....your primary goal is to focus on proper form rather on the amount of weight and how intense...if you are not a beginner you should vary, sometimes high reps , sometimes heavy weight low reps .. etc... you can do 2 sets out of 4 to fatigue. However not for every workout...i do it myself every 2-3 workouts of a given muscle

exactly ......

meathead: you should remember that bodybuilding is a life time thing you don't want to burn yourself early and/or injure yourself...body management is part of the game

No doubt! I wanted spaghetti last night and took out lean ground turkey for it and got home to some stupid hamburger helper type cheese filled pasta instead . Total let down.
