Hey folks,

About three months ago I was one month into a new work out regiment. Taking in more calories and working out harder than I have before. I was doing my best to lift correctly and not too much. Was doing a lot of core workouts. My lower abdomen began to hurt..in between my hip, groin and abs. I also began getting stomach aches, cramping, and pressure pains.
The doctors have checked for everything, blood tests, colonoscopy, x rays, cat scan etc. They have chalked up the pain to IBS and a lower ab strain.
I've changed my diet so the stomach pains have greatly been reduced but the lower ab pain is still there..especially if I lift my left leg while lying on my back. I haven't worked out, haven't even gone running and it's still hurting. I'm dying to get back to the gym. I've started icing during the day and doing lower back/ab pt exercises on my own. I'm a pilot so I sit for hours on end, and have to get up and down a lot.
I've never had a strain be this painful or take this long to heal. Doctors seem clueless, even added that my lower back discs are narrowing which could indicate arthritis. I'm only 29. Does anyone have any ideas? Stories or insight into how to heal to get back to the gym? Is appreciate any info, thank you!!

Sorry didn't see this... I know it's months old.

I'm going to say the problem you're having is in your groin and lower ab off the top my head right now I can't think of the muscle but really the only way to get past it is to be nice to it and don't do anything that bothers it there's really no real way to fix it I've done it myself. I was doing heavy rack pulls and hurt myself for the better part of three months before I can start to train heavy again.

If the muscle comes to my head I will repost it so you can look into it...

sounds to me like you might have sprained your inguinal ligament, not a common injury which is why the Dr's are perplexed. Go see a sports medicine Dr he will be looking in the right area. I dont think you have an inguinal hernia or the cat scan would have caught it. really nothing you can do for a strained ligament except what Usealittle said, just nurse it, and cold packs might help too. As stated though, go see a sports medicine Dr

Thanks guys...I've done just that and pain is reducing but still there, I have another dr appointment Monday. Any of you know where to get some ab rehab exercises I could do on my own? I appreciate the info!

im thinking exercise is the last thing you need. ice and lots of rest. it can take several weeks for a ligament sprain to heal. hope your going to a sports medicine dr for your next appointment. get well soon bro, i know that has to suck

Talk to your doc about seeing a physical therapist, and look into therapists that work with athletes. The right physical therapist can really speed up recovery.

It could have been something you ate, tbh its a weird story but my buddy drank ashit ton of milk before his workout and his stomach was hurting horribly during it he said ( we hit chest) he was complaining bout the pain turns out he got a hernia from his stomach expanding lol. Lets just hope you don't have a hernia and make sure your stomach isnt going haywire from what you're eating aswell. Try to keep it clean and lay off the heavy lifting just try to keep a steady pace when you get back in.
